Hackney Diamonds Cover Artwork

Hi everybody,
I love the ROLLING STONES since more than 50 years for the music, the concerts AND for their creative and tasteful cover artworks. After those brilliant works for STICKY FINGERS, EXILE ON MAINSTREET, LOVE YOU LIVE (as to mention only three of so many) I can not believe they chose this tasteless, cheap, kitsch illustration for their new album. I don’t read much about the new artwork on iorr.org ... what do you think about it?

It doesn't appeal to me at all - but they have your attention and mine already. That's the point - this is being done to draw in new audiences. After all that time knocking out the hits in stadiums, I'm pleased to see them appealing to new generations... even if I have to design my own cover

The cover is awful. I'm not a fan od Blue And Lonesome, El Mocambo too. Another tongue variations are just boring. They just outbid it with HD cover. I don't agree it's to catch up eye of new audience. Stones won't tempt young guys because of cover art.
Stones used to have stunning posters, artcovers etc. Since VL it's getting worse.

I was hoping they'd do something more sophisticated and bit more mysterious ... Imagining a black and white photo with bits of shattered glass in the street maybe a car with broken windshield, or a bar in the background ?
Something without the tongue logo -- which is SO PREDICTABLE.
Amateurish execution, imo.
Very unnecessary to use a font that is supposed to look like broken glass.
Instead, it looks like an old Chinese restaurant's lettering.
Still.. I am excited to hear new music from the Rolling Stones.

Well I rather like it! Was a bit disappointed with the ABB one, so I think this one was well done. I also think B2B is one of their best though and will probably be stoned on here for that in a few! LOL

Dreadful cover !It looks like some of the worst concert lithos from the last tours. Last great cover for a Stones album is Tattoo you. Over 40 years ago.

Some people criticize "the variation of the tongue", but that is not the cover.
The cover is the knife breaking the heart crystals
It is not fair to compare it with the best covers in the stones history! (Sticky Finger, Exile, etc.). But I consider it far far better than A Bigger Bang or Blue & Lonesome
I find the album art excellent, in fact I'm thinking of getting it tattooed
but only the outlines and in black and white

Agree! I love it too! ... but really I wouldn't have cared if I didn't ... the music is what counts, and so far so good!

It looks absolutely tacky. They should have had the three of them do the EN Hitmakers pose on a black background. The Stones hasn’t had a good artwork since Some Girls if we only talk studio albums. Count everything in and I’d say maybe Some Girls Live In Texas.

Initially thought I'd go with the "female" alternative cover version for a tattoo, but thinking it may be a bit difficult to get it right.
Leaning towards something like this now.. combination grayscale for the diamonds and shards.. but with the hands in Stones Red

Cover art isn't (that) important anymore. The vast majority of listeners are streaming and doesn't pay much attention to a cover. The cover had a much more significant meaning up until around year 2000 where it could stand out in the massive "walls of albums" in record stores. It also served a totally different role when it came to the advertisement of the album.
I think this is resulting in artists not paying too much attention to cover art design anymore. Stones have had loads of great covers IMO, and in later days I think the cover-art on both Voodoo and B2B were really great - as standalone covers and also as concepts for the tour, merch and so on.
I am also underwhelmed by the Hackney cover-art, but I guess I won't pay that much attention to it while streaming the album off Spotify.. Unfortunately.

Excited for the album, but I don’t like the cover art at all. It just looks low-effort and dated. After all the amazing concert posters they put out over the years, I’m really bummed they chose THAT as their album art.

I think so, too. I really like it and also the image I’ve seen with the pile of eyes and hearts. It’s a whole theme and I think it’s cool.
Can’t wait to see how the ink turns out, Mr. DDDD!
