London even botched Aftermath and Between the Buttons too!

No.

The U.S. versions of those two albums have better lead-off tracks, and the U.S. Aftermath with "Goin' Home" as the last song has a much more powerful ending.

Seems like 2-0 the stones thus far...

It looks like that Stones - surprise, surprise - will win not just this battle, but the whole war... grinning smiley

And when The Stones will have their biggest guns out and really get the shit going on, the Beatles are running out of bullets... >grinning smiley<

Interesting trivial factoids regarding With the Beatles:

"The (With the Beatles) LP had advance orders of a half million and sold another half million by September 1965, making it the second album to sell a million copies in the United Kingdom, after the soundtrack to the 1958 film South Pacific. With the Beatles remained at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, displacing Please Please Me, so that the Beatles occupied the top spot for 51 consecutive weeks. It even reached number 11 in the "singles charts" (because at the time UK charts counted all records sold, regardless of format). No other group or singer has achieved 51 consecutive weeks at number 1 in the album charts".

Number One

Oh sure that's not bad, but it's not like they were up there for a year or anything.

I'm going to be a bit controversial here, and from the perspective of a dyed-in-the-wool Stones fan, up to Sgt. Pepper it was Beatles, and Beggar's Banquet onwards it was Stones, with obvious exception of Satisfaction and Paint It Black.

Part of that was the fact that the Beatles had a 6 year head start on the Stones.

Part of it was that they were truly a unique band that practically invented the concept of an album as art.

But the Stones were more consistent and as they started making albums that sounded like "self-contained greatest hits collections" at least through Exile, whether the sales stats indicate that or not they were impenetrable.

PLUS, they were always the better live band.
