There's no competition here. HM has natural talent for composition. And he has luck on his side.

Very cool that BV posted it as clearly its a great show. I have taken a few photos on this tour and while the stones are very photogenic there are obstacles to deal with. With other bands you might notice people holding up cell phones at certain points to take pictures or a video. There are lot of folks up close taking pictures and videos. I had at least one person in front of me in the pit holding up a cell phone videoing the entire show. He held the phone above his head in one hand hand and waived the other hand above his head while dancing. Instead of me trying to capture a moment...I had to wait for a moment when I could capture something. I like HM's shot in that it is a closeup and shows the joy KR & RW have for each other and for playing live. They are also seemingly looking right at the camera. I also admire what it does not show...the clear plastic looking rain tarp that covers the band like a roof...even indoors and the LED screens in the background that show up in photos as a 1000 points of light. Anyway, thanks HM & BV!

Yes, a very good photo. I actually thought it was taken in a studio.

Indeed this picture Hendrik took is unique. I knew it the moment I saw it. It's just great. It is a monument, documentation of this tour. Friendship, smiles and happiness in the band during the shows.

Every time I used to make a new It's Only Rock'n Roll magazine - there are now 61 issues so far - I went to the press agencies in Oslo (Reuters, AP, Rex, Camera Press etc) and looked through all their professional Stones photos from the past few months. Picking a photo for the IORR magazine was the same task as picking a photo for the IORR home page. It is about having a large selection to choose from, at a high quality. The IORR home page is more challenging to fit, because a picture should work on all screens, large, small, mobile, PC etc, but it should still be great and unique. And I think this picture Hendrik took, would be perfect for the next issue of IORR, except it would not be a surprise, so I would have to find another one.

I totally agree with all the comments above. Even by Hendrik's high standards, this photo really is exceptional and I am sure would happily grace Ronnie and/or Keith's home!
