When did Mick stop drinking in the studio?

Listening to the 1982 recent outtakes, it struck me that the pleasure of hearing an oiled up, unpredictable Jagger at the mic (Dreams to Remember?) has long be lost.

When did he quit drinking behind the mic?

He started inhaling helium instead, hence the change in some of his vocals...

I guess when he gained total control of the band back in 1989. He decreeded a "clean people" rule to the band's entourage (he couldn't get rid of Sessler though).
Logically he enforced the rule unto himself?

Singing while you're drinking, especially as you get older really isn't good for the vocals.

Mick didn't have an amazing 'range' in the first place, so beyond setting an example in the studio it was a good move in terms of sustaining the voice he has.

Whats good for the song is what counts, juiced or not, don't know about his lacking range, but he sounded amazing until the mid eighties. I'm not sure what he was sustaining besides his health.

I believe that Mick uses his singing voice like some actors approach their roles. For the public they become the characters but it is an illusion. Mick may sound drunk but most likely he is sober although sometimes he may sound sober while being high.

Generally I suppose he began to sober up during the mid-1970s, when Mick Jagger turned into Mick Jogger.

About the same time he started singing the scale up and down, and Keith demanded dressing room as far apart as possible, may be. Probably 30 years or so ago.

Mick knows how important it is to stay HYDRATED.

Also Keith made sure he was always sufficiently hydrated ... winking smiley

I'm sure he still sneaks in an occasional drink.

Because the bar was closed.

I’m unaware of Jagger ever having a ‘problem’ with alcohol. With that in mind, I can’t give a direct, related response. Sure, he may have been ‘under the influence’ on occasion, but, unless lifelong teetotallers, we’ve all been there, right? I suppose Jagger is very professional. I’m glad.

Sounds like the ultimate shady lawyer question: When did you stop beating your wife?

there just is no good answer.

I just mean that singing while you're drinking wrecks your voice, in that moment and maybe longer term too. You lose your range especially belting out big songs.

I keep seeing this thread title and just shake my head at the absurdity of it . As if it matters ? All one has to do is check out the discography of the Worlds Greatest Rock and Roll Band - The Rolling Stones ! I am reminded of Secretary Hillary Clinton quote of "What does it matter"
