Brian was never into heroin, apparently -
downers, drink, acid for sure, but not heroin.

speedballs were Keith's drug of choice for quite a while there ...

Yeah and they were all(except for Charlie, perhaps) doing speed in the 60's and 70's.

Mick's doing lots of viagra these days, Keith and Ronnie do some hard liquor and spliff once in a while. Charlie is clean, though.

Don't know if this is true. It's what I've read and heard and what I think they

i don't know about acid, but Brian didn't stop using downers in 68;
he was smoking pot along with everybody else;
and since you're listing alcohol you can put it down for him too, right up to july 2nd 1969.
Keith reportedly took acid for the first time in december 65.
i believe Ronnie's said he's been drinking since he was 16 - which would be what, 1963?
and Mick's historic 1967 conviction was for 4 hits of some mild kind of amphetamine.
(yeah yeah, it's been said that they were actually Marianne's, and maybe they were,
but speed was part of the Hard-Workin Musician Routine right from their early days.)

I recall reading somewhere in the last couple of years a comment from Charlie regarding his use of speed. He gave the impression that he used a great deal of it, actually. I don't recall the time period, though.

If you are looking to check out the Stones on drugs, pick up the 5 DVD collection called Rolling Stones On the Record. Not only does it have great footage of the Stones from 63 until now, there is an interview with Keith and Ronnie from 1982 where they both are coked up. Its almost uncorfortable to watch how many times they are rubbing their noses. It is on the 80s DVD in the added bonus section.

Mick Taylors "division/split" in the nose was almost completely gone after heave duty using coke in the early 70'ies....

Keith did smack one time in 1997? Is there a story behind this or something?

Re: What drugs have they been on?

Charlie was also doing amphetamines at the same time he was on heroin...he explained it in the Stones' 1994 60 Minutes segment with Ed Bradley.

As far as Keith doing smack in 1997...he mentioned quite casually in a Q fan interview from '97 that "someone" had scored some earlier on the B2B tour, and he "had a taste" but all he got from it was itches.

He said something to the effect of "but you should never say no."

I am sorry, but this is the most pointless and ridiculous threads I have read here! Who gives a toss as to what drugs they've been addicted to or dabbled with over the past 40 odd years? It’s a known fact that Keith used to be a heroin addict, they’ve all smoked weed, snorted coke etc… NEXT discussion!

I personally would be more interested in raising the subject of what drugs posters here have been addicted too or dabbled with.

Anyone going to get the ball rolling?

Yea the songs and stuff are great but this thread is about the drugs. And as a fan for over 20 years, I can truly say that it was because of my addiction to the Rolling Stones that I bought a guitar and smoked my first joint. They made it look too cool. Let's face it, "herion chic" was not invented by some anorexic runway model, it was Keith!
I couldn't get a hold of harder drugs in my rural dump in ohio back in 78, but when my parents moved to NYC the next year you can bet that I snorted coke and listened to "Fingers" loud on my walkman.
My band signed to Virgin records in 95 b/c the Stones were on that label. Too bad the label sucks, we should have went with Columbia. Anyhow, I have no problem admitting that these guys turned me on to drugs, among many other things. I can think of a lot worse role models in this world.

LA Forum, DVD can be found at

[www.amazon.com]

The video footage is worth it although it is unathorized so their is no Stones music on any of the 5 1 hour dvds.

What drugs have they been on? A better question might be, what drugs haven't they been on? But that would be a much shorter thread. I think that between the 7 members they have done it all at least once. I wonder if any of them have done Ecstacy? Probably Jagger. It is a club drug and he goes to lots of clubs. Some young model probably turned him on to it.

It's not the question WHAT drugs they did, but HOW MUCH of it they did. A line of coke hurts nobody, but from some sources like Ian McLagans excellent book you can't escape the feeling that they did enourmes amounts. He describes the Miss You session in 1977, and apperently all were doing not just a line, but a couple of lines every half hour for four days in a row. Then they would pass out, wake up, and start all over again. Another story in 1979, where Bobby Keys brings in a huge bag of Mexican base coke. They all do it for days in a row, and all are addicted to it after the session. Same story when Keith visits Longview Farm in 1981. He arrives, and stays in the studio's booth listening to music and doing coke for three days. He passes out, and is flown out to Rome for his passport. This what amazes me.
