If Keith accepted a knighthood it would go against everything that he stands for. I'd have repsected Jagger more if he refused the knighthood!. It would have revived some of the old spirit of the rolling stones. You heard Keith in the BBC2 interview recently "Let that family go near me with a sword I wouldn't let them near me with a pointed stick!" Right on Keith!

well, he doesnt want it, so its a moot point

Mick's actually the only rock musician to have got one for services to music - and he basically got it with a bit of not so subtle lobbying to Tony Blair. The difference is that he wanted a knighthood. Keith doesn't.

All the others got it for their services to charity. As Mick's not exactly known for that kind of gesture, they could hardly have given him one for that reason - so music it was...

If I remember Mick does charity work

Re: Knighthood

so does almost everyone I know

Hardly enough to merit a knighthood, though...

Does he really do charity work?

Re: Knighthood

well..these people would no doubt make donations to charity, but usually choose to do so in a low-key manner which doesnt get a lot of publicity

there was a nice story in the UK press a couple of months ago where some guy who was head of a charity had written to Mick to ask him for a donation. he got a cheque for several thousand pounds in the post from Mick and then returned the cheque to him with a note explaining that Mick had obviously accidentally not realised that he had already sent a cheque for the same amount just a few weeks earlier

Mick then wrote him a letter back and enclosed another cheque for double the original amount as a thank you for his honesty

"Keith deserves it"
I think the key point is that the Establishment doesn't deserve Keith.

true, they all do a good deal of charity stuff, both as a band and as individuals.

and while i'm here ... my understanding is that when they approach you about knighthoods or other such honours,
if you turn it down you're expected/required never to make it known that it was offered to you.
Keith's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't want anything like this -
and can anyone even imagine the conversation if they did approach him??
"now don't tell anybody -" yeah right! :E

I think if Mick is the sun then Keith is the moon. If Mick is Sir then Keith can't be. Ying and Yang. Plus and Minus. Man and Wife. Night and Day. Different but both needed. See?
