Pay Pack & Follow

This could possibly be the most perfect Stones album ever. With Jagger and Keith both on vox, Keith and Taylor on guitars, Ron on Bass, Ollie Brown on Percussion. Great songwriting, much dope. The other guys are all the types who fit in with the Stonescrowd (except Paul Shaffer).
Any thoughts on this album?

well, it's not what i'd call the most perfect anything,
but it grooves me a lot more than i expected, that's for sure.
Oh Virginia, Zulu Warrior and Mr Blue sound particularly good to me.
great cover art too. :E

Pleasant disc, really nothing special. I've never heard much "Stones" sound in the tunes, although many others do. Worth picking up for the Keith pictures, if for no other reason. KR at his most junked-out.

Karl, I can not believe you don't hear the "Stones" in there. Might be John's vox.

Probably. Always sounded a little too folky-hippie to me, which probably comes from Phillips' easy-going smooth voice. A couple of nice Taylor licks in there though!

The greatest thing about the CD is the story in the liner notes how the master tapes were lost for more than 20 years!

OK, it's not all rubbish. It could not be.

But I find it all in all extremely weak. It has no guts. Phillips vocals are as lame as ever. All in all a very boring work.

Of course if you analize the performance, the music is well played, there is taste but that can't be enough. The more if you notice (impossible not to) the awful cheesy-flowerpower-grasssmoker arrangements. Did Harvey Jay Goldberg ever work for Kit Kat Abdullah Stevens?

I played it once and never listened to it again. I found it to be dull.

A great one, but hardly the best Stones disc.

Sounds like what would have happened if Mick made a solo album in the 70's. Its not bad but I don't like John's voice at all. If Mick were doing lead vocals it would make me feel entirely different.

No like John's voice? Even on Monday's?
