OT: White Sox

Not music related, but congrats to the Chicago White Sox. Although I'm more of a Cubs fan, I'm still a fan of the Sox (and Bears/Bulls and especially Blackhawks). Congrats also to all of the long suffering fans in Chicago who haven't seen a World Series win in almost 100 years!
Weren't the Stones the first band to play Comiskey?

The Stones connection runs deeper than the 2002 show at Comiskey Park.

Muddy Waters was a big White Sox fan and used to listen to the games at Old Comiskey between sessions at Chess Records at 2120 South Michigan Avenue...

The Stones themselves recorded at that South Side address and paid tribute to the Chess Studios by naming an early instrumental after the location.

Hats off to the South Side of Chicago: home of the electric blues and of the 2005 World Champion White Sox.

Congrats to Sox fans. All 4 games were tight, hard-fought battles. I couldn't believe our batters couldn't get a clutch hit every now and then and make it a closer series. Oh well Astros suck and Sox rule. By the way Chicago is an awesome city. Stay warm this winter.

Sater- Check out a baseball game and how many players there are from all over the world. Most teams have several translators. And in all the other baseball leagues around the world (espeically Japan and Korea) if you are one of the better players than you come to the US to try and make it in the big leagues. Last night they had a big ceremony for Latin baseball players, 20-something percent of the league is Latino these days.

Lets Go Mets!!

sorry j.j.flash...thats a popular myth...doubleday had nothing to do with the invention of baseball...it was an evolution from the british? game "rounders"

I to wish to add my congrats to the White Sox on winning the Series. But only because I hate those two trader bastards Roger Clemens and Andy Petite . If they stay in NY the chance of the White Sox winning an ass wiping contest would have been nill . SO having said that I do like Ozzie and I tip my hat to them Well done Gents. Enjoy it because the Yanks are coming back.

Congrats to the White Sox and I'm not even a baseball fan. I'm more of a hockey fan which makes me wonder aloud: will the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in '06? They have a decent enough team.smiling smiley

Just had to chime in here and say- YANKEES SUCK!!!

"I'm the bleeding volcano"

IT'S BLEEDIN' ROUNDERS, PEOPLE!!!
Posted by: scaffer ()

And I know what I'm talkin'about. I pitched for the San Francisco Spiders of the San Francisco League in 1981. Yes, the lowest possible classification for American Rounders possible. But there it is.

However, my teammate, Paul Bates, was scouted by the Baltimore Orioles.

It's an ENGLISH SCHOOLGIRLS' GAME, folks!!!

You know, sort of like Sweet Little Sixteen by Chuck Berry.

We Wanks know who we really work for.

BTW, the average American Rounders player earns (are you ready?) ... $2.1 MILLION a year.

Oswaldo Guillen, manager of the ChiQuago Calcetines Blancos, didn't do too badly for himself, no es verdad?

Finally, did anyone read Mick's bio? He points out that his dear old dad worked as an athletics instructor at US military bases in England and, as a result, Mick knows all our Wank sports (basketball, American football ... even American Rounders).

Truly, Mick does it all.

'I was a pitcher ... down in a slump ...'

Stones89. I'm a die hard Hawks fan. Even though I live near Vancouver, the Blackhawks have always been my favorite team. The way they're playing right now, they won't even make the playoffs. Khabibulin, or, the "Buhlin Wall" sure isn't living up to the hype and the contract the Hawks gave him to come to Chicago. He's letting in alot of goals.

Congrats Sox.

As a longtime Cub's fan let's hope the Cubs are next.

IMO Sater's right to say that it's not the "World" champion Sox, regardless of where the players on the teams may be born (although Sater's wrong to say they only play in the US--Toronto still has a team and has even won the Series a couple of times).

Other sports (hockey, football/ soccer) have leagues with players from many many different countries, but they don't call such league champions the world champions. Football/ soccer has the World Cup for that, and hockey (as another example) has the world championship.

Baseball doesn't have a world championship (except at the little league level), but that doesn't make the World Series winner a world champ. Remember the World Series was a news paper, not a reference to geographical field of competition for the championship. By the way, the same "world" tag is often applied to NFL champs, and there it's equally incorrect and few would argue that NFL players come from all over the world.
