Keith's Voice

If you listen to something happend to me yesterday Mick and Keith singing this song together. I think it's keith's first solo lines in a stones song.
If you compare it to, for instance, This place is empty, you hear a world of a difference. Very funny

Yeah, true!

What I think is that Keith's voice has matured and given him a great
opportunity to bring him these soulfull ballads!

Lots of emotion in there!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Keith probably had the technically best voice of the band uo to maybe the early 70's, clear strong tone, but lost it rapidly. a technically good voice does not mean crap though, I mean I like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Keith Richadrs voice of today.

i always loved his voice but when he tried singing higher he lost his reality! like jagger since woodo lounge but jagger lost when he cut his voice like f...ing rappers!what do you think brothers and sisters

I think it's Keith's harmonies the Stones miss the most. His voice is a lot lower now and he just can't sing them. He sings the crooning songs quite well though.
Mick's voice has become really irritating as he's got older. He's lost his growl and he over accenuates too much. I don't like 'rewm' instead of 'room'.

And when did he sing 'room'.
Not even in the earliest recordings, I´d say.
But I also like his singing pre-1982-83 or so more,
Too much technique now.
But on the other hand; if he didnt work well with his voice,
he may lost it = no Stones.

Keith's voice and vocal technique are doin just beautiful.
yes he had that sweet high clarity in the 60s/70s,
but he really started hitting his LV stride in the 80s, and has been going strong ever since.

i don't know what people are hearing that causes them to compare Keith's singing with Dylan's;
and for sure i don't get what "when he tried singing higher he lost his reality" means. what are you talking about, Roul - Casino Boogie??

"What do you want - what?!"
- Keith

Keefs voice works to perfection on "this place is empty" he brings ya right into his lonely world....the power of his "personality" in his singing is undeniable

Keefster will soon sound almost like the ooooooooooooooooool´ Wolf
did at the newly discussed London session. When he speaks he sounds like
a mixture of my grandma´s sister and my grandpa, both heavy smokers.

Listen to the harmonys he's done over the years... far away eyes, sweet virginia and loads of others. No bands have done that!

I think that Keith's version of You got the silver is
way ahead of the version where Mick sings!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

I prefer the old keef voice. I liked hearing a slight crack and a highier pitch as opposed to the constant husk of today (the lounge phrasing gets annoying some times- But overall I'll take what I can get! I like This Place is Empty alot and I think its because he tries to reach those high levels again, especially on the chorus.

Loved it untill Dirty Work. From there on he's gotten worse, in my opinion. He's singing false notes live and in the studio he sounds like he holds the world record cigarette smoking too. If he wants to sing let him excersice like Mick does.
