Looking forward to this.

Echo in the Canyon | Official Trailer

Echo In The Canyon celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s as folk went electric and The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound. It was a moment (1965 to 1967) when bands came to LA to emulate The Beatles and Laurel Canyon emerged as a hotbed of creativity and collaboration for a new generation of musicians who would soon put an indelible stamp on the history of American popular music. Featuring Jakob Dylan, the film explores the beginnings of the Laurel Canyon music scene. Dylan uncovers never-before-heard personal details behind the bands and their songs and how that music continues to inspire today. Echo in the Canyon contains candid conversations and performances with Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr, Michelle Phillips, Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Roger McGuinn and Jackson Browne as well as contemporary musicians they influenced such as Tom Petty (in his very last film interview), Beck, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Regina Spektor and Norah Jones.

I also am looking forward to this one, my personal opinion is that in the later half of the sixties the Beatles followed all the other bands in seeking out the 'rock sound', they were influenced by many others. They didn't lead the charge.

'Cross pollinated' a great choice of words

I've seen it in a private screening. Highly recommend it! It's a great movie about the mid-60s Californian music scene.

We had something like Echo in the Canyons before:

Which reminds me: does anybody remember a German documentary about

"Sunset Boulevard"

Must have seen this ~15 years ago, I think it was on 3Sat and by Georg Stefan Troller.
Musical highlight was a visit to the rehearsal room of Friends Of Dean Martinez.

Cannot find a trace of this in the net, unfortunately.

Should be interesting to watch regarding the development of folk rock and birth of the SoCal singer/songwriter music era. One would hope The Wrecking Crew gets a nod for their contribution to this era of music. As to Jakob Dylan and Jade Castrinos cover of Go Where You Wanna Go, does anyone else find it a drag?

Why the soundtrack of remakes? They must not have been able to afford the rights to the originals. And yes, the J. Dylan remake of the Mamas & Papas song is not good.
