A sensational January 1966 recording by Duffy Power (vocal/harmonica) with John McLaughlin (guitar), Danny Thompson (bass) and Red Reece (drums). This was one of a tranche of recordings made between 1965-67, funded by Marquis Music Publishing, using a pool of terrific jazz and blues players (including Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Terry Cox and Phil Seamen in addition to the names above), which were largely unreleased at that time - bar one UK single and a French EP. In 1971, Duffy selected 14 of the tracks - including this take of 'Little Boy Blue' - for the retrospective LP 'Innovations' on Transatlantic Records. I had the pleasure of curating a 25-track 'definitive edition' of 'Innovations' for Repertoire Records (released 2022), adding all 11 known strays from the 1965-67 period, with terrific new mastering by Eroc. Alas, in creating this montage video my memory failed me - in that it was Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames drummer Red Reece, not future Pentangler Terry Cox, on this one. The McLaughlin / Thompson / Cox team is present on several other tracks from the period. Ah well... Find the definitive 'Innovations' here: [www.repertoirerecords.com]...
