Girl singers on "Where the boys go"
Date: October 5, 2005 16:07

I always wondered who were the female backup singers at the end of "Where the boys go" - does anyone know? There is no hint on the album cover.

they were 3 unnamed teenage girls who lived near Mick in New York. They wanted to be singers so Mick gave them a go as they were recording this song at the time.

And no, I'm not making that up!

(The backup vocalists) were just little girls who live up the road. In New York... Central Park West... (T)hey had all the attitudes off, it was the notes they couldn't get. (Laughs)

Yes, I remember to have heard that story before. But getting a go without being mentioned isn't too splendid.... Doesn't anyone know their names?

Most sources say the song was begun in Los Angeles August/September 1977 and finished in Paris June/October 1979. As far as I know they haven't recorded anything in a New York studio between 1977 and 1979, only the final mixing was done in April 1980 at the Electric Ladyland Studios. Maybe the girls were added there.

They did a great job. They deserved to be credited, buts its way too late now.
I wonder if today they tell their friends that they were on the record....Since they grew up, I bet no one believes them.

And theres probably a thousand women out there that claim they were on it too just to get attention.

Mick didnt even know/remember their names.

I distinctly remember Mick being interviewed about the song on BBC radio in june 1980 when ER came out and he said they lived near him in New York - but that he couldnt remember their names

the LA sessions were 1978, not 1977

The version of WTBG on ER comes from Paris summer 1979, but the band did overdubs and mixing in New York in November-December 1979 so the overdubs would probably have come from that time

The album was originally supposed to be out before Xmas 1979 but was delayed until June 1980
