"u2 has released just a fraction of material compared to the rolling stones.
time will tell..."
It's a fairly large fraction when you consider that the Stones debuted on record 16 years before U2. The Stones have released 331 different songs on record since 1963 compared to U2's 198 since 1979.
U2 should be able to into their 60s, as long as that is what they want. They have been together with the same lineup for 29 years since their forming in September 1976.
Besides their continued great commercial success, a strong thing keeping them together is none of them want to make solo albums. The only U2 solo album is The Edge's soundtrack to the movie Captive which was 19 years ago.
Mick Jagger keeps on wanting to make solo albums, which has caused friction in the Stones. As long as Bono doesn't let his humanitarian work outside the band become too time consuming, U2 should be able to avoid all the friction that the Stones had in the 80s.
