What's your excuse?
Posted by: LA FORUM ()

For listening to the Stones? My girlfriend always nags about my bootlegs, downloading videos, my stories about Keith in the 70s, the Torontobust, and how they used to be the greatest band and how everybody nicks everything from them etc. You know, I defend them every way I can against her shitty artists. May suprise you guys since I always put em down here (Keiths hair, their concerts). So, how do you defend the Stones? What's your excuse?

OK! But if a friend puts you down?

That too. There's many songs by The Stones that fits the mood I'm in. Sometimes when I'm awake at night (I sometimes am), I like just sitting in the dark with "Still A Fool" oozing in the background, while I smoke my cigarette. THAT feeling is just awesome.
If a friend puts me down, I think I'd be in the mood to hear Time Waits For No One. Don't ask me why. I just think I'd hear that one.

I don't either, I have a boyfriend! But seriously, he's into classical music mostly and the Beatles and some others in a pedestrian way. He does NOT understand how the Stones can be a "lifestyle" or an obseesion for me (especially during a tour) but it doesn't piss him off - I think he's jealous, actually. I tell everyone needs a hobby, and the Stones are mine!

my best friend once said to me " why, of all the bands out there did u pick the stones to latch on to". I looked at him puzzled and said" I didn't pick them , they picked me". It's been a way of life for 23 yrs. now!!!!!!

That's what I usually say too, that they're my hobby. In a way it's worse being a girl because when I tell people how much I love them, they always respond by calling me a groupie, which is really annoying. Don't get me wrong though, I would totally sleep with them if the opportunity arose, I'm not a fool!

But it's true that they're the best band to be obsessed with. Because there's so much to read about, watch, hear. Pretty much whatever type of music I'm in the mood for, the Stones have a song that fits. To this day, when I'm feeling really bummed out, Beggar's Banquet always makes things better.

As for significant other's, I have turned every boyfriend I've ever had into Stones fans and they thank me for it.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Hey, what can I say... if someone tells me I'm a loser for listening... no, being what you would call obsessed with the Stones, I tell him/her to @#$%& off! That's my way of life. If you don't like it, I don't need you around me complaining. The Stones rock, and that's what I'm sure of.

My girlfriend is pretty cool about my obsession she is not much of a fan but loves Ruby Tuesday, and I mean that is like her fav song of all time but really has no intrest in anything else by the boys. Oh well she accepts I have "a weird fetish" about the band, and she is the best thing to happen to me ever so i can't complain

I really don't have an excuse. I just listen to them because their music overwhelms me. They are the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world. Ever! People slag me all the time about listening to them and I just say this is what I like. They just do it for me. I can't explain why.smiling smiley

No need to explain why, Stones89....the only thing that counts is that they "do it" for ya....passing fads come & go but the boys are the foundation...its a great place to come home to...the "foundation"...p.s. and if there is a heaven, i'm in it right at the moment listening to the "ladies & gents" soundtrack

What's my excuse for listening to the Stones?

What's my excuse for breathing. I don't need no stinkin' excuse.

But to answer the question, I listen to the Stones now because I'm going to be dead sooner or later and at that time I may not be able to listen to them, so I have to listen to them now, don't I?

How's that?

Better question, what's anyone's excuse for NOT listening.

Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges . . .

Exactly Leonard. That was the intended tone. So much gets lost in a board transmission.
