at this point, it barely seems like Ron Wood is officially a band member. Mick and Keith aren't going to give any more of the credit and money to someone else than they have to. and really, why should they? Mick plays some pretty good bass on ABB - it's not as if they need Jones in the studio. If Daryll walked tomorrow they could get another bass playing sideman for concerts who would be just as good or better. Bass players would literally line up for that job.

The Stones are Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie - they won't add an official member any more and it would be a strange move if they did, I think. Darryl knows that and he gotta be happy to play with them because he certainly wouldn't have troubles getting another job.

Who? Oh, you mean Sting's ex-bass player...why would he be a Stone?

I hear he's a hired gun these days...

If they had any decency they would make Daryl a full member after all these years, would be a good sign too, that Sir Mick is not a complete gold coast slaver down in New Orleans, im sure Keith and Ronnie would agree, but Micks too @#$%& greedy but what else is new

Darryl is a hired hand, which means he can play with whomever he wants to. Frankly, I think he prefers having that freedom. Even without the Stones gig, he would have no problem in finding work. It's a non-issue.

Daryl reportedly sat at Charlie's drum kit early in tour (Charlie & Keith reportedly walked off momentarily during Sympathy--due to sound problems). Apparently, Charlie wasn't happy about Daryl's move--that didn't win him any points. But in the end, it was trivial and probably blown out of proportion.

I'd say, in my opinion, Daryl should be a official member, but it'll never happen. He's played more shows with the Stones than Mick Taylor, and probably equal to or greater number of shows that Stones did 1969-1990. Age, race, background, nationality, and MONEY all play factors, to some degree.

Fans can argue and debate that Jagger-Richards-Watts are "the Stones". However, one could make a strong argument that Brian Jones--who formed the band--was the Rolling Stones. Or how about Brian & Stu? Jagger and Richards knew each other before teaming up with Brian....one could argue that Jagger-Richards were a team , and destined for fame before joining Brian...its been said Mick & Keith would have ended up with a band exactly like the 'Rolling Stones" if they'd never met Brian. (Little Boy Blue and Blues Boys?). Since '69 has it really been the 'Jagger-Richards show" under the name "Rolling Stones", with a changing cast of characters (except Charlie).

In my opinion, this is a facinating topic. But, we all know the end will come when either Jagger, Richards or Watts dies or becomes an invalid.

Technically, not philisophically, are there any "original Rolling Stones" LEFT?
Its been my understanding that Brian & Stu had PP Arnold on vocals (later of Manfred Mann?), witnh Geoff Bradford on guitar, and a differnt drummer & bass player in the beginning. (I don't recall if Dick taylor was the first bass player) Brian had an idea of the kind of sound he wanted
....was that the "original Rolling Stones"?

Thoughts anyone??

If this should be a point (how many years someone have played with the Stones), I think that for example Bobby Keys or Chuck Leavell deserve more than Darryl Jones to become Stones` members. winking smiley I`m just kidding, the band looks fine now, but I also wonder whether there are any chances of Bill Wyman rejoin the group.

In 1975, to be a rolling stones you must be born in UK. Darry is from Chicago.
But is Keith always british? Putain ca va chier pour ma tronche, pas sur la tete les mecs.

The 4 Stones are the Stones; I think the feeling was that after 32 years (Voodoo) it was not appropriate to call anyone new a Rolling Stone - in '94, how much longer might they last? also Ron joined after 12 or 13 years. Remember that Darryl didn't even play on Bridges 2 Babylon except for 1 or 2 tracks, & he is not on many ABB tracks (RW's non presence on some tracks is a different issue(s) having to do with - at risk of over-simplifying things - his addictions, & the concurrent marginalization of recent years)

Well, it took Ronnie a few decades to become a member, so you never can tell.

Daryl's the youngest - so I can see this scenario panning out

1) Daryl gets full membership
2) The current members die
3) Daryl survives and tours as "The Rolling Stones" with backing sidemen

Who pays to see this act? Ticket prices?

Long before Daryl becomes an "official Stone", both Chuck Leavell and Bobby Keys should be "inducted" lolololol

no it didnt

He was a band member from 1976. He would hardly have been on the cover of the rest of those albums from Black & Blue onwards had he only been a hired hand like Billy Preston, etc

The only difference was that he was on a wage and not an equal percentage until after Bill left - as such, he was a Stone but wasnt a "board member"

Apart from the period in between when Mick Taylor left in December 1974 until February 1976, the Stones were continuously a five piece band from 1963 until Wyman's departure.

Darryl Jones will NEVER be a Rolling Stone and (unlike Ronnie) was never recruited with that in mind. They decided NOT to replace Bill. theres no way that at this stage in their career, the Stones are going to cut someone else in on the action
