kahoosier!

Yes, it would seem different solutions work
for different folk. I went the psychological route,
counselling, and was quite interested in COA
theory, Children of Alcoholics, how can
might be genetically predisposed to
it, and if so one really has no
choice but not to drink at all
or you are screwed. It can
leap genrations, but there
is history and it is
almost like an allergy,
you just react a certain
way if you expose yourself to
it. Which is maybe why in my case
I figure the addiction is mostly
in your head; it's a choice, do you
use it or not? But of course this might
not work, or make sense for everyone.........

Btw interesting cut above thread and Stones
related too. I suppose like them, a lot of us
thought it was real cool to booze it up,
do a lot of drugs, back in the day,
and later suffered the
consequences.

I wonder about Mick. He seems pretty
health conscious these days. Does he
still toke? Drink? Do chemicals?
I suspect not, or perhaps he's
just not one to take it to
excess, unlike say a Keith
or a Ronnie?

This post is just personal stuff on quitting, so feel free to skip it, I don't mind winking smiley

Thankfully I never became an alcoholic, but I was well on the way. As I passed 30, hangovers started taking too much time, so I decided the good times weren't worth it. Every night out seemed the same anyway. It was socially quite hard to stop, and it still makes me feel like an outsider how much time people around me spend talking about drinking: what happened, how sick they feel, when they're going to drink next. Us Finns seemed to travel to foreign countries based on booze pricing.

It's almost appalling how many of my co-workers read tabloids and make fun of celebrity drunks, and still they probably wouldn't be able to stay off the bottle for even two weeks. I'm not trying to be holier-than-thou, it's just an observation, and I used to be just like them.

Quitting alcohol has made me happier, I feel like I'm living a life instead of wasting one. It wasn't tough, but like I said, I wasn't an alcoholic. Quitting smoking took some effort, but I made it. Due to an ailment I'd like to quit coffee as well, but that's VERY hard. Strange withdrawal pains, mainly in the legs.

Nicotine is the only drug that relaxes a person and stimulates them at the same time.

Taken from todays "Sun" newspaper:-

Ronnie Wood has played his first sober and fag-free gig for years.
The band kicked off their A Bigger Bang World Tour in Boston,USA on Sunday.
And the night was a huge victory in the guitarist's battle against booze and cigarettes.
Ronnie a rehab regular, didn't drink or smoke before , during or after the show.

An insider told me:- "Ronnie was justifyably pleased with himself. It wasn't easy. He stuck to soft drinks and wore a nicotine patch".

During rehearsals here in Toronto, I saw security
carry prop him up, and carry him out to his car,
sort of pour him into it, on two ocassions
during the last week. Either he really
likes to hug people, or he was
pissed. Word at the gate was
that he was hanging
around the clubs
along Yonge St./
Eglinton too.
Dunno, but
i was worried
he was losing it.
Glad to hear he
played the opener
straight....................

Myself not in the mood for discussin alco problems
(at least not at the moment, otherwise, yes, gladly,
I´ve been there, done that);
There might be other, or at least, more reasons to those scenes...
Artists with very tense stage nerves can behave like that.
A Swedish artist Evert Taube (1890-1976) was so shit-scared
before performing the promotors have to fetch him, dress him
from scratch and persuade him he had promised to go.
And that he wasnt lethally sick.
- All this readable in the book by Ove Hahn
"Gröna Lund Stora scenen kl. 20.00 : från Evert till Miles".
(he also mentions Miles, Hendrix, Marley etc etc,
hope the book becomes translated one day... By me, maybe... ?)
But my idea is that of stage fright.
At least it may have worsened it.
...As long as he plays good; and he seemed to have, right?

Yeah from what I've heard and
seen, he seems in good musical
form. I don't think he's down
for the count yet!
