Crap set list

What a dissapointing set list, I know they have to play a lot of songs to appeal to the masses, but surely no long time or casual fans turned up to hear, You got me rocking or Out of control, there is half a good set list there, but if they could drop the two previous songs aplus Mis you and add a couple more classics (get off my cloud, last time, 19th nervous breakdown, love is strong etc) they would have a classic set list that would appeal to all levels of fans.

First, they should have started the show with something more surprising.
They have shown with Not Fade Away in 1995 that it can work and be magic.
There are so many songs that could do the same effect as Not Fade Away.

Another thing is that I fear we are going to get Miss You at every show ...

What a lack of imagination !

Get Off My Cloud man! What the hell did you expect anyway? This was opening night where all kinds of fans (and especially non-fans) came to see the greatest rock 'n roll band kick off another major tour. This setlist was all everyone could expect. Ofcourse there are a few dissapointments, but everybody seems to think the Stones owe their 'big' fans something. They DON'T! A Bigger Bang is released pretty soon, they played four songs off it.
This concert wasn't about Licks and it's 3 venue menu! The Stones treated us during Licks on many occasions. They will probably add some rarities to the setlists further down the road. + these songs for the first gig isn't too shabby at all:

Rough Justice
Back Of My Hand
Beast Of Burden
She's So Cold
Heartbreaker
Night Time

It's about time everybody stops whining and thinking the Stones owe us something. They don't owe us shit!

I think it's great they played Out of Control. One of their best tunes from the last 20 years and it was even better live on the Bridges tour.

Re: Crap set list

At least they did 'Out of Control'. Hope it stays on the set-list.

the other thing to keep in mind is that this was opening night.
with the entire world watching they aren't going to come out and take a risk on a bunch of new songs as well as oldies gems that haven't seen the light of day for 20 30 or 40 years.
im sure as the tour progresses more gems will emerge.
i don't think i would have felt ripped off attending this show, looks great to me.

Actually, I think it was a good stadium setlist, I mean, come on Heartbreaker and Beast of Burden. Out of Control is back. Think it is a much better setlist than any stadium tour. I do miss a hard, dark Paint It Black. But I think this setlist is a setlist with potential. But I do wonder, how was IORR as an encore??? Never really liked that song live...

lighten up, Francis, it's a rock n' roll show and on print looks pretty damn good.

Well-balanced set list. Some "warhorses", some new songs, some not usual like Beast Of Burden, She's So Cold, Heartbreaker. Personaly i miss Gimme Shelter, but that's not a reason to talking about "crap set list". Crap is the indefensible nagging!

Well put Adrian.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

still - it's not a very exciting setlist.

And as I posted a week or so ago - I hope this isn't going to be Licks Tour Part #2 !!!

I'm in the middle of burning all the discs you lent me.
You're lucky you're such a whore.
Otherwise I'd never ph uck you.

You have no idea how lucky you are that I never have sex unless I pay for it.

But then so's Vanessa.

Esky, if they will play very often songs like Beast Of Burden, She's So Cold, Heartbreaker, Shattered (+ the new songs), how can the tour be Licks Tour Part #2 ??

01. Start Me Up
02. You Got Me Rockin
03. Shattered
04. Tumblin Dice
05. The Worst (Keith)
06. Miss You
07. Satisfaction
08. Honky Tonk Woman
09. Sympathy for the Devil
10. Jumpin Jack Flash
11.. Brown Sugar
12. You Can't Always Get What You Want
13. It's Only Rock N Roll

13 out of 22 played on the Licks Tour.
And of course they will play some of their new album.

I just think they could replace some of these songs above with their other classics that they have ignored which I'm sure would be great live.
Some people have mentioned some great songs - but the Stones are playing in their comfort zone.

I hope as the Tour goes on they will try a few songs that haven't been bashed to death before.

And Kyle - GFC.

This is similar to opening night of b2b. In Chicago they ran through the hits and as the tour went on they added some obscurities. I think they will do the same. Don't worry-they'll get to sway!!

"13 out of 22 played on the Licks Tour"

Esky, on the Licks Tour they did 117 shows. On the Tour Shattered had been played only 4 times, The Worst 6 times, Heartbreaker 4 times, Out Of Control just one time, Miss You 18 times. Even "You Can't Always Get What You Want" wasn't every night on set list: 63 times out of 117. Do you imagine a stadium concert without Satisfaction, Honky Tonk Woman, Sympathy for the Devil, Jumpin Jack Flash and Brown Sugar? I cannot imagine that...
Do you want only songs they didn't played in the past? I don't believe it but in that case i can imagine a set list: Select three songs from "Their Majestic..." except She's A Rainbow and 2000 LYFH of course. Add "Sway", 3-4 songs from "Metamorphosis" album, the new stuff and after tell me who the hell, except a few hardcore fans, could go to the concert...

I can, quite happily

The Stones have more great songs in their back catalogue than practically anyone and dozens of recognisable songs

By all means play a selection of 'hits' but how about rotating them and playing maybe 5-6 per show instead of playing the same ten or so EVERY night

Ah, Esky, forgot Beast of Burden. Played 4 times on Licks Tour..

Here we are again those all time moaners who can't stop argueing and then some even say that on stonesdoug side the fans are complaining more than here.
Get your guts together and be happy for another tour and for a so far what I heard from a very good album.
I also could live without tumbling dice, but what the heck, they come and they play and if you don't like it, just leave it.. but stop argueing about things which are set. full stop

Well, at the very last minute I decided to take it on the chin and grabbed a pair of floor seats...got back from Boston at 5:00am.

Jagger was phenomenal. Mind-boggling. Energy beyond belief in working the entire stage, but also tremendous detail and flair to his vocals. I stand in absolute awe of his showmanship. And also his slide guitar playing..!

That said, it was difficult to watch them deliver a show that was so incredibly market-driven in terms of set list selections. As a lunatic obsessive who has seen then many times, I don't need to hear the warhorses. I certainly don't need to hear the second-tier tunes (much as I love "Shattered" and like Heartbreaker" they don't feel like treats and certainly aren't revelations). "You Got Me Rockin" is just a damn waste of time.

Now that may put me out-of-sync with the rest of the crowd, but I'm not so sure. Building a show primarily out of hits robs the show of ebb-and-flow dynamics. The band seems defensive when presenting new material and a little bit cynical when crowd-pleasing.

But "Nighttime" was a wonderful Lisa F. moment. And hats off to the Stones for standing up for "Out of Control"--it was superb and they should be so proud of it.

"Can't Always Get..." and "IORR" as encores were fine--a slightly different way to wrap up that was appreciated. Any variations are good...

I guess that if they came on, farted 20 times, played Satisfaction, then let off some fireworks a lot of people would go home happy.

I probably would.

Wouldn't we then argue about the tone and quality of the farts?

LOL Four Stone!

Ronnie can't match MT's fart-vibrato.

Was Keith's last fart in open tuning?

Their farts were really weaving!
