John Warren Geils Jr., better known as J. Geils, the guitarist of the the J. Geils Band, was found dead in his home in Groton, Massachusetts Tuesday. He was 71.

It was during the band introductions on September 25th that Ron lost his ring, "Hey Mick. Mick. I just thrown my ring out in the audience. It's a very nice gold ring, it went over there. If you don't want to return it, it don't matter but I'm gonna get in terrible trouble."
After "Hang Fire" Ron says, "Do you know I got my ring back?"
Before "Hang Fire" Mick can be heard telling Keith how "Hang Fire" goes. "Let's Spend the Night Together may have kicked ass but Mick was in the wrong spots in the beginning.
Over all, it was a great day! Yeah, a great vibe. We got many song we didn't expect such as new versions of "Under My Thumb," "Let's Spend the Night Together," "Time is on My Side" and others we didn't expect like "Let Me Go." "Waiting on a Friend" was great to have. "All Down the Line" was one of my very favorites. "Little T&A" was a nice change for a Keith song. "Let It Bleed!" I didn't appreciate "Tops" at the time but glad we got it. That's one song the Stones need to bring back!
"Down the Road Apiece" was a real treat the second day in Philly! I never did appreciate "Mona" but it's always nice to have something different and rare.
It was a great concert because it was a great day, a great audience, great weather and the Stones reinvented. Yeah, the Stones were ragged but that is part of the charm of the Philly shows.
My good friend who is a huge Stones fan still laughs about Keith forgetting the chords to "Let It Bleed." "There they were, the greatest Rock and Roll Band in the world. Professionals forgetting the chords. Too Funny!"

DAVID GRAHAM: My dad was the tour director on the ‘81 Stones tour—that frankly rejuvenated their career, if you really
analyze it—and on that tour, Keith had a pair of boots that he was in love with. He would never play without these boots
and, in San Francisco, at a show at Candlestick Park, his heel broke off on one of the shoes. Emblematic of how hands-on
my dad was, he grabbed these boots and he personally took it upon himself to fix them, and my dad was the furthest from a
fix-it guy or a carpenter. So here’s my dad tracking down a hammer and a nail and hammering the heel back into this boot
and giving it back to him so he can play.
At the end of the tour, Keith gave him the shoes back as a gesture of love. That’s the type of stuff my dad would do.

Graham helped usher in the era of stadium rock with his tours for the Rolling Stones and Crosby, Stills,
Nash and Young. He’s celebrated for mega benefits like the Live Aid concert and in fact died in a helicopter crash
while shuttling to work out details for a benefit.

the story of a driven, brilliant and infuriating man who brought the music to the people.

I'm thinking maybe the bottom photo is Ron asking for
his ring that flew off his hand in to the audience. Anyone
know if that incident happened at Philly's 2nd '81 show?
I see there's a ring on his hand here but there may have been two.

I was at Philly #1 and I'm pretty sure I recall the ring incident happening there. Ah, but it was more years ago than I like to admit and memories....

I well remember the Let It Bleed fiasco but I was never too sure which guitarist was playing in the wrong key. I thought it was Woody but I could be wrong! 
Although undeniably ragged, I think the gig gets a worse rap than it deserves. Truly ragged but that Stones vibe was still there! I was right in front of the stage and had a great day! The one other cringe moment I recall was a very bad start to Street Fighting Man and Mick singing the wrong lyrics to virtually every verse. Found confirmation of that debacle on youtube!
