Reply Dutch fans in for a Amsterdam Arena ban !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to let you know !

Dutch musicfans complain more and more about the bad accoustics in the Amsterdam Arena. The sound is swimming around in the stadium, and from some points it sounds really bad. Many fans just pay to be there, not to enjoy the music. This is not meant to be if you pay an awfull lot of money !

After the recent concerts of U2 there were again many many complaints. Just as it used to be in the past after concerts of the Stones, U2, David Bowie etc etc.

Dutch fans of [www.stonesforum.nl] and the mailing-site Dirty Works are mailing their complaints to the promotor Mojo Concerts (Clear Channel entertainment) as well as to several other media (newspapers, radio stations etc etc).

Probably nothing will change, in fact some company's just go for the big money, but as we say: if you don't score a goal, you will never winn.

I think if the "ROOF" ("DACH" in german language) is OPEN, there will be a good sound.

The problem is I don´t believe that arena will do so.

In 2003 the sound in Amsterdam Arena was the most bad I remember of the Tour.
Such a great nice town !! and so bad sounding arena.

Gerhard fron Germany

* therefore no ban but action for roof opened arena !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

De Kuijp is soooo much better than the Arena. And the Stones are always great in Rotterdam.

Interesting to see what will Mojo decide. I guess the Stones don't care.
Will Mojo go for quality/service or not?
Apart from the sound, somehow the Stones belong in De Kuip, a nice built historical soccer stadium

Will someone give me one good reason why they would play the ArenA instead of the Kuip? They have the same crowd capacity.

Well in 2003 they played two shows at the Kuip then one in ahoy and one in Vredenburg and then two at the Amsterdam arena. So i think they tried to avoid the Arena but couldn't probably because there was no more room at the Kuip.

Cheers,
Wuudy

well, don't let it be just words, I for one won't go to the arena when they play there, I'd rather go to some german concerts or england for that matter. been on the field once at a stones concert in the arena and had to guess what they were playing. close to the speakers the sound isnt that bad but in general it sucks. so no amsterdam arena for me and certainly not for the amount of money they ask for a gig.

The closed arena show in 2003 was the worst sounding concert I have ever attended. I was warned by several fans that it would be. I was told I should go to Rotterdam. At the time I was unsure of how difficult it would be to go to Rotterdam from Amsterdam. After having done the trip to Holland and now knowing how great their public transit is, I will deffinatley go for the Rotterdam shows if we go back in 2006(which is our dream).

I remember a lot of complaints about the sound at the 1998 shows in the ArenA as well

Why dont they just open the roof? Or would that be too simple a solution?

I guess for most tourists its more convenient to visit Amsterdam than Rotterdam.

Never seen the band in Amsterdam, but really enjoyed the two Rotterdam shows I was at in 1995. Great venue.

I want this:

- Groningen outdoor (they say it is a done deal in fact)
- Den Hague (one more time, this time without rain, just a wish though)
- De Kuip aka Feyenoord Stadium (perfect place and 1995 final bow)

Just pack these houses with many shows and we will have great days in the Netherlands. And we can buy Grolsch beer even outside the ArenA, so I agree, ban this place for music. You have to travel into nowhere, and the sound is really bad, bad, bad. Only nice thing is you don't get wet if it is raining. But bI would take a lot of rain rather than bad sound.

Groningen and Den Haag? Hope I get "On Stage" tickets. Or FOS tickets.
And Landgraaf instead of Groningen. Landgraaf is only half an hour from my place.

I agree with Bjornulf. The Stones wont play small venues in Europe. Maybe a few, but not in Holland because too many people want to attend the shows. So Ahoy' is out of the question.

They can sell 3 times Feyenoord Stadium (3 x 50,000), 1 time Malieveld The Hague (80,000) and 1 time Groningen (80,000). That's over 300,000 people, and excatly the number of people that The Stones can get for the ticketprices they will set (I guess around 100-120 euro).

So we get to see the Stones 5 times and another big advantage: no room for outrageuous scalper-prices.

Groningen will get the show next summer, I am pretty sure. That is what I hear.

Den Hague is just a dream from my side. Don't take it seriously. The show and location was just perfect when they did it in 1998. But it was a special day in den Hague then so I don't know if there is money and people and distance from A.dam that makes a show there economically stand-alone. If people go to A.dam anyway they don't do it. But if it will sell another 80,000 tickets they might do it.

All places in the Netherlands are in driveable distance of Amsterdam. People of abroad shouldn't have problems to go anywhere in the Netherlands. As said somewhere above, public transportation is not bad! So the Stones can play anywhere in the Netherlands, but NOT in the Arena. the Arena is a good places for soccer(Ajax),but not for concerts. As Gazza asked earlier, why don't they open the roof of the Arena? I've wondered also why not, maybe the solution? But wouldn't take the risk if it is possible to see the Stones somewhere else in the Netherlands.

They can't open the roof in the ArenA because every time the Stones play there there are some clouds on the sky. And if these clouds suddenly drop some rain, which they do at times in A.dam, then they will ruin the nice seats and all other things they have inside the ArenA, and people will go wet. Some might even sue the ArenA. Who knows. I don't think it is built to stand much rain. Inside that is. Just like the Toronto Skydome a.k.a. Rogers Centre. They close it whenever there is a chance of rain.

I feel your pain. The Stones played the Astrodome here in Houston for years and the sound sucked. I wish they'd stop having shows in these large indoor domed stadiums, the sound is always horrible.

I enjoyed all the concerts at these gigs...Ahoy was especially fun...really a great show.

I´ve been to a lot of concerts in the ArenA and the most shows I´ve seen there the sound was horrible and that was not only with The Stones.
In july I went to a concert of U2 in the Arena and I was standing front row and the sound was preety good, but I spoke people who sat at the tribune and the sound was horrible.
The day of the U2 concert it was round 30 degrees celcius outside and the roof was closed!!! And inside it was as hot as hell!! The problem with the roof is that very often soundsystems will hang there sso the can´t open it.
I really hope that the Stones will play in De Kuip and not the Arena!!!

Maybe it's time to make another wishlist: one about the venues we want the Stones to play.

My choices for Holland: Kuip, Ahoy, Paradiso (last choice is wishful thinking this time around, i guess...)

The roof is the main advantage. The neighbourhood will hear the concert less with the roof closed and ofcourse they can stop the rain.

They send a letter to MOJO concerts to complain about the sound, sorry it`s all in Dutch, but for the people who can read it, they are trying NOT to play in the Amsterdam ArenA .

Okay, let's be clear. The Arena is out of the question. I'm sorry for Amsterdam. But how about two times De Kuip, once in Groningen, once in Landgraaf and once in Gelredome (the sound is quite acceptable).

agreed very much; I won't go to the Arena ever again, sound cant be worse
I think the insurance is much lower there because no lightning/rain is possible(?)
