Think Gimme Shelter is a good opening song. Especially when you look at the 1997 Versions or The ones from 2015 which actually sound a bit like The Versions from The btb tour.

Great song.......but no. Imagine that first 30 seconds unraveling. "Scarf Me Up" is here and gone in 7 seconds. GS has no opening punch. I can hear it now, Keith flubbing and altering the moody intro.........sounds like an avoidable train wreck.

GIMME SHELTER has a great opening punch after "the dark threatening" intro Thrylan!

To avoid a GIMME A SCARF the intro could be played behind the curtains just before THE STONES enter stage on the opening punch riff.
I would go MAD!!!

Keith really screwed up the intro of Gimme shelter in at wembley 1999, most people thought it was pretty funny and Keith got a big cheer...........admittedly it wasn't the opening song of the show...........so lots of room to hide in the great performance up until that point....

The first voice and 3rd instrument you would hear would be Lisa. I'm not a Lisa hater at all........but it's just not an opener.
