Birmingham Odeon 73

I Particularly enjoyed the Benidorm gig on the Licks Tour last time but my favourite must be the second gig at Birmingham Odeon in 73 - I went to both gigs there on the same evening and although the playlist was similar, the crowd went crazy in the second concert which was simply unforgettable.

Also, while on on, how come I never hear requests for them to play "She's So Cold" which I think would be fantastic live? I've never heard them play it and I've been seeing the Stones from 73 up to date in various countries...

"Till the Next Time.."

did you miss the 81-82 tour?

they played it every night...

they massacred it, IMO.. a tuneless thrash just like the 100 mph version of 'let me go' on that tour. Two songs that were much better on the original album.

AGREED! One of the worst ever live renditions of a studio song!

But the Birmingham show was excellent.
Wasn't it Jagger who mentions that the 2nd show was ALOT better than the 1st ??
I'm sure I read something about this??

There are some versions of She's So Cold that are ok. One song I thought they killed was Hang Fire. There is one version that is about a minute and 20 seconds long. I think its the Kansas City show but not positive, I think they forgot a verse.

Star do you have that 73 show on bootleg? If so how is the sound quality?

I must be listening to a different band - I love the She's So Cold's and Let Me Go's from 81/82.....true raunch and roll....

But compare "She's So Cold" live to the studio version .... a terrible stuff up!

But that's my opinion, I just expected better....perhaps I'm fussy....

And yes - do we have the 2nd Birmingham '73 show ???

Now that would be GREAT!!!!!

That's what I liked about the '81 tour - they weren't beholdened to the studio versions of songs like SSC and LMG. In fact, they didn't even bother with the instrumental bridge on the former! We've heard they're rehearsing it for the new tour and I will guarantee you that it will sound as close to the studio version as possible. I like the studio version alot but I hate that they have developed a pattern of going back to studio versions for the live act. I think it demonstrates a lack of confidence in their ability to improvise on stage (maybe rightly so...)....

But T&A - She's So Cold is a hit because it is played so cool and groovy on the studio version - not at a million miles per hour on the live arena...and very sloppy during the 1981/82 tour! I have a feeling Keith/Ronnie/Bill/Charlie had no idea when the famous change in that song was about to happen!!!!
That's my point.

As for the '81/82 Tour in general....well there will be many arguments.

the only good thing about LMG from 81 is when mick runs in the crowd
for his ego trip

The b.ham odean 73 has been advertised on one of the rolling stones site knocking around, but alas cant remember which one it was and not sure if it was the first concert or second concert but i do remember it got a good quality sound rating but that was by the guy who was selling them thou.

doesant it seem strange that they could do two concerts in one afternoon/evening and even stranger that i had to queue all night to get a ticket.
