Only the cover is science-fiction...
I think that Manhattan Beach is a good name for the new CD.
Only hours or days to wait.

MANHATTAN BEACH...again !

This time, the belgian firm StageCo who provided the huge Licks Tour stage in 2002-2003, names the next Rolling Stones tour "Manhattan Beach" on the website of the company :

Indeed, I called Stageco and they were a bit surprised it wasn't announced yet.

Hi folks,
ahhhh...i don`t know....the title Manhattan Beach does
not turn ne on immediately....hope it grows after a while and after
getting some more background info about the album title...
but at the moment...sorry to say: it doesn`t work for me..

The last album titles like Steel Wheels, Vodoo Lounge or Stripped
turned me on from the first second....Babylon was a kind of mixture..
it got better for me after a while...

By the way...remeber Showdown, Too Tough....as for know I would say
that SD would have beaten MB...but, we`ll see.
by the way...who the @#$%& is that belgian STAGECO....
always thought it was Fisher design who build up the Stones stages the last tours....are they working together or what ?
Who knows more about the connection between Fisher and Stageco ?

See u on the tour
salar

Mark Fisher is a designer, an architect of stage.
StageCo is a builder.

Apparently they are often working together (U2, Pink Floyd, Licks and B2B tour, etc...)

Indeed it's a good cover. Let's hope the album one is nearly as good as arizojp's. In fact, it's amazing how a band like the Stones hasn't had a really good album cover since...

The cover's good, but I'm sort of dissapointed in the title since I learned it's an actual place. They might as well have called it Scheveningen Beach, Red Square, or Las Ramblas.. Too literal and the associations a bit too sunny and un-stonesy..

Do folks really give a rat's ass about album (or song) titles and artwork? That really amazes me. I thought it was the music that was important....

It IS the important, but while we wait for the album we have to entertain ourselves with silly matters, as we don't know titles nor artwork...

I like nice artwork.
Especially with 33 vinyls.
The artwork is an important thing in the experience of buying and listening to a record.

The Stones are responsible for the ugliest coverart ever (Bridges to Babylon).

I agree that artwork used to be a little more important back in the LP days...but how can it possibly be important to the listening? It somehow enhances the audio experience? Huh?

T&A: The artwork was an essential part of the listening experience to me back in the vinyl days. I remember going every friday after work to the recordshop to see if there was any new interesting releases. If there was, I bought the ones I liked and went home ASAP. Putting on my headphones and studying the artwork as I listened. Sometimes one could find connections between the images and the music, and it enhanced the listening experience, at least I thought so back then.
Today I think the art of artwork has taken a backseat due to the format of the cdcase, I almost get a feeling they see it only as a necessary evil and donĀ“t put any work or thought in to it. Just my 2 cents.

I'd have to echo those sentiments. Live Licks has to have the shittiest coverart of any Stones release. Pixilated... in a bad way.

Album/songtitles are fun to look at and talk about. Entertains us throughout the wait.

Re: Manhattan Beach

okay - but suppose the artwork was non-existant (remember the LP cover for Beggar's Banquet?) - that would somehow reduce the quality of the music? I don't get that. Great album + shitty cover = great album. Shitty album + great cover = shitty album.

I don't care about artwork normally but that cover of Times Sq at the beach is brilliant!

And good artwork doesn't hurt.

I know alot here don't like the cover of IORR but I love it.
Actually it's my current screensaver.
:0)

"Manhattan Beach" wouldn't hurt the band as a title cos it will probably help it sell in NYC cos of some silly New York connection, and that'll push it up the charts.
Still I don't like the name.

But that cover rocks! Kudos arizojp!

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

I do remember reading about people's strong dislike of Let It Bleed's coverart. Still amazes me. Granted I wasnt around to throw my two cents at those idiots but I still think its one of the most creative art pieces printed on a vinyl case.
