None of us knows why Dylan did not attend the Nobel Prize awards ceremony.
Maybe he thought he'd only get a box of dynamite ....

no matter what his reasons were: not attending was impolite and disrespectful. (I'm saying this as a diehard Dylan fan).

Dylan being "impolite and disrespectful"......he's way beyond that. I found that to be a surprising post from you, slewan, you usually have good points.

None of us knows why Dylan did not attend the Nobel Prize awards ceremony. We should assume that he had a a good reason to not attend. It's not that he expected it and kept the date free "just in case". No further speculation needed, imho.
It wasn't a joke to him, he felt quite honoured and "not worth it", I think.
At all subsequent concerts I have been to, the Nobel Prize medal was displayed on stage.
I've been to quite a lot of Dylan shows after the Nobel prize, including the show in Stockholm on the day he met the Nobel prize commity – I've never seen the medal displayed on stage.
Could you please post a photo?

well, the Nobel prize is highest award anyone can get. If Dylan didn't want it he could refuse to accept the prize (like Sartre did). If he wasn't able to travel to Stockholm or to deliver a Nobel prize lecture in person he should have pointed out his reasons and/or provide a video (like Elfriede Jelinek did. Her reason for not delivering her speech in person was that she was "psychologically not able to expose myself personally" (her words)).
To stay away for undisclosed reasons and to take the prize as well as the money – that's what I call impolite and disrespectful (especially since he delivered a 30+ minutes speech when he received the MusiCares award a few years earlier. And who's ever heard about that award before Dylan delivered that speech?)

Self Portrait? The guy played it half way through once and stuck it in his stacks and forgot it. Like most of us would do. Cannot blame him. Not really worth the trip back to the library to return it.

I’ve always liked Self Portrait. It’s an odd, interesting quilt. Copper Kettle? Weird stuff. All the Wild Horses is cool. The version of Quinn is sub-par, for sure, though.

Dylan's horses are not wild, but tired…

Whoops. Of course. Thanks for catching that.

These guys are more a legend than a band.
Their first name was the T-Nickel House Band...T-Nickel is my step-dad.
Jesse Taylor (a Flatlander as several moved in and out of the band...but known as Joe Ely's guitarist) is still the best guitarist nobody has ever heard of...in my opinion.
Nice add Rockman.
P.S. Happiness is still Lubbock, Tx in my rear view mirror.
