I Want To Be Loved

Oh, not me (again)...
This deals with the title above... [www.keno.org]
Jeezuz what a song, what a groove!!
At the very days of my own conception
the lads went into the studio, recorded "I Want To Be Loved" in March 11, 1963.
It was (according to Keno) not released, and they recorded it again in May;
two months afterwards that is. Then (quoting from Keno: )"it was released as a B side single in the UK on June 7, 1963. Released in the US on The London Years in 1989. Vocals: Mick Jagger Harmonica: Brian Jones Piano: Ian 'Stu' Stewart Guitars: Keith Richards, Brian Jones (first recording) Bass: Bill Wyman Drums: Charlie Watts" Myself I refound it at Singles Collection cd1.

I say he (they?) who play guitar like in the middle part in this song,
he/they deserve ot have a holy corner in my house with his/their picture, candle light and daily prayers. Even if it´s maybe not Brian´s guitar we hear, its his harmonica; and he is to put it smoothly getting his Cheltenham lungs out!

Yet its a Willie Dixon (not the dullest composer/song-/lyrics-writer to cover).

Is there any other out there who could imagine this on the world tour from a B-stage (or anny stage, if you ask me)?

The 3/63 version was recorded before Andrew kicked out Stu, & he is clearly audible. The May (single) version has no Stu that I can hear. Those five March '63 tracks were on the 1st boot I ever bought, "Bright Lights Big City" (great 'Road Runner," 'Diddley Daddy," etc) very cool, but w/ Mick & Keith still 19, the older members - Charlie, Bill, Brian, Stu - really have the musical chops & authority, tho The Glimmers would catch up very quickly)...BL/BC also includes classic Chess outtakes from June '64 and the December's Children era "Looking Tired" where Jagger sings about someone "crazy 'bout writers, from Chaucer to Steinbeck" & its still a down & dirty blues, not pretentious...

Bright Lights was one of the first Stones boots I bought back in the early 80's. I prefer the version if IWTBL on this compared to the version on the Singles collection.
A side note, the opening guitar riff to Diddley Daddy is the same as on 19th Nervous Breakdown during the break near the end of the song.

I remember Keith acknowldging the Diddley riff in this song during his Paul Schaefer interview on Friday Night Videos in the late 80's. He even played a couple of licks to demonstrate it...

"The May (single) version has no Stu that I can hear. " (john r above)
...No, not me neither... But damn me if I don´t hear his spirit there,
I still groove permanently to this... Who can stand still
...Today I´m into RS-Now! So f*cking f*cking great this band was
at so many different periods!

Hi T&A,

I taped that FNV with Keith/Paul. It was around 1987 I believe. I have dozens of VHS tapes that I've taped over the past 20 years so I'm not sure what tape it would be on but I have it somewhere.

Wish that FNV show was available in a digital form.

Hey; even Bill is on his absolute top level on this session,
very alert & aggressive bass lines where his fingers
must have ached a long while after the recording.
Wonder if one should wish this song at Bill´s tour
(he´s here right under the polar circle in mid-October)... ?
...Of course it would be a blessing to hear the very Stones
remake it in 2006 (O.K., 2005 would also be all right,
at least if its in Boston or MSG).

I saw Keith with Paul Schaffer on TV way back when in the 80's...probably the same show.
I remember Keith giving a guitar demo of Under My Thumb...it was classic!
