It's just too bad they don't actually play theaters. That might be the one thing they could still do that would get me excited about seeing them again.

Question for our UK venue sites specialists...

I want to "catch" 2 gig's of this tour - hopefully both between Thursday and Sunday.

This can work for:

Nov 28 Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Nov 30 SSE Hyrdo in Glasgow, UK

OR

Dec 5 Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, UK
Dec 7 NIA in Birmingham, UK

OR

Dec 11 Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK
Dec 13 Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, UK

In aspects of "quality" of the arena + type of crowd expected (for The Who) - which pair would you think is best? I want to but FOS for one night, cheaper tickets for the other. Know nothing about most of these arenas...

Thanks!

Personally I don't like the Birmingham NIA. Feels too open (yes I know it's an arena) but I have never seen a good gig there (personal opinion). Never seen a gig in Nottingham so can't comment on that venue.

Out of all of the cities, the best crowd IMO would be Glasgow. They really know how to appreciate an artist. Obviously you would have to fly to Belfast, but those two venues/cities are the most exciting of the pairs IMO. It would be more of an adventure as well

I can't comment on the Manchester/Liverpool venues, but access between the two cities are probably the easiest out of all the pairs.

Birmingham NIA is supposedly not one of the best sounds around. I went to a Madness concert and could not believe how bad the sound was, apparently Elton john said the same and said he wouldn't appear there again, but I think he did do another concert there.

Saying all that its either Nottingham or Birmingham for me, with Brum being on my doorstep, just a pity its a Sunday concert thou.

I've been to quite a few gigs in Nottingham as I live here. The only act who sounded any good were the Foo Fighters. The others all struggled to get a decent sound. It is smaller than most of the venues above. The crowd tends to be mostly local as it's usually an add on date to fill the gaps between the bigger city arenas.

I've only been to Birmingham NIA once to see Eric Clapton but he'd just gone unplugged and the gig was rubbish with a poor sound.

Manchester Arena is quite big but I've had some good nights there, the Stones and ACDC and a not so good night seeing the Police.

I'm going to go to Nottingham and hope they bring the PA they are using at the bigger arenas, like the FFs did.

Roger and Pete playing a 4-song acoustic set at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London where they announced their upcoming tour (The Who Hits 50).

Roger sounds amazingly good. A few years ago, when his vocals were hit and miss, one would never have guessed that he would sound so timeless so many years down the line....

I really do get a feeling that this tour will be like saying goodbye to a really good friend. The Who have been there for me (like the Stones) in so many situations in my life. Without Keith and John of course it was never going to be the same, but Roger and Pete surrounded themselves with good musicians and have done a really good job in keeping the legacy alive.

I will be there at the 02 and i'm sure I will have a tear in my eye come the end.

PhilipStaniforth, petewasbristol, odean73 - thank you for your help!

Struggling and going back and forth between the different authorities (easyjet.com, National Rail, Tickermaster.co.uk, MY BANK ACCOUNT) it seems that Birmingham & Nottingham would be the ones... Am I right at tickets are not yet being sold for non TW fan club/VIP packages? hate Ticketmaster.co.uk! got its hard labor going through them. Seems like no e-tickets in their case too...

At least I enjoyed some "English humor" with Ticketmaster's repeated need for "type in this sentence to help battling the bots"... Sentences appearing being such as "god I am tired", "poetic justice" or "no more luck"...

Edit: Yes 9 am on Friday. Try get online for that time as Kasabian have a UK tour on sale at 9.30. Ticketmaster may go down during this hour....

Wow! Roger & Pete with all their typical Power.
They are in top form.
Pete´s guitar playin´ strong and full of energy and precise like a swiss clock.
Roger sounding Daltrey every note.
And improving again that they are masters of VOLUME.
That thhey even with vocals & acoustic guitar can create a wall of sound.

WOW!! Amazing. They sound incredible. I almost wish the TWO would tour instead of the WHO. All those versions are amazing! Thanks for posting that!

I have just received an email from AEG announcing a pre-sale at 0900 GMT tomorrow (Thursday) using this link

I got my tickets in the Fan Club pre-sale on Tuesday, it was the usual bad-tempered Ticketmaster scrummage. However £85 for the best tickets in the 02 does compare favourably with the cost of Hyde Park.

Certainly The Two were in good form at Ronnie Scott's (Daltrey's throat operation in 2010 has really helped) and they have committed to playing more obscure selections from their career, so fingers crossed.

Any idea about prices?

One of my friends reckon the cheapest is around £100.

Thanks, Simon. I have a chance of early tickets tomorrow, but wouldn't be surprised if every man & his dog have also.
Teresa is doing ok, thanks. The affection has now gone, still in a bit of pain, but slowly but surely getting better day by day.

Hope you are keeping ok and all the best on your latest adventure.

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear that health is on the up.

Yeah, it will be a scrum as per, but try tomorrow, try Friday at 0900 and even if you aren't getting offered good seats then don't panic Capt Mainwaring...the bs VIP soundpackage seats at the front very rarely all sell and will be available in the week before the show.

Just over a week before I go. I'm sh*tting myself, hah-hah-hah!

All the best!

Cheers,

Simon.

It's not, as Roger calls it, "The beginning of a long goodbye." It's the continuation of a long goodbye that began in 1982. Entwistle referred to their 1989 25th Anniversary Tour as the "We Came Back To Say Goodbye Again" tour .... and that was 25 years ago!

Hmm ... no dates for Europe, for example Germany, the Netherlands or France? Only in GB and North America? I would love to hear The Who once again, but I don't want to take a fly to these countrys (money and time).

Guess that The Who are compensating their fans on the pair of Islands for not getting their Rolling Stones share during this summer grinning smiley

Got two tickets for £84 for the NIA birmingham.

Seat tickets, would have preffered standing, but still good enough for me.

I'm still stuck in those "waiting rooms". I guess the quota of the pre sale tickets is fulfilled OR that it is some overseas IP rejection thing...

Was aiming for VIP package for one gig, front rows tickets for another. Also checked for Liverpool/Manchester occasionally. Nada.

Will try again tomorrow at the notorious ticketmaster.co.uk...

There are now so many presales going on for concerts that it makes a mockery of the whole process. For this one alone, there is the fan club presale, the AMEX presale, the AXS presale, the O2 presale, the Eventim presale and probably more still. And how can a reseller like double8tickets have a presale??? It's all a total farce.
