I've been a licenced amateur radio operator for almost 20 years and it's one of the coolest hobbies for me. Started in the citizen band - CB radio - like most, and never lost interest, although I spend long times of inactivity due to lack of time. The summer months are the best, though. The propagation is open all the time and with a radio and a piece of wire as an antenna one can communicate with hams all around the world.
