Does the singles box suffer from as much compression as the crappy 2009 Universal remasters? It doesn't to my ears but what do you all think? I am thinking of redoing my iTunes of 1971 on.

Tracks on Singles box are dynamically compressed the same way as the 2009 remasters.

However they're mastered a bit less "hot", ie less "limiting" was used. It seems to me they sound a little bit better than the 2009 remasters. But difference is really small.

The tracks that suffer the most from the "dynamically compressed" remastering process are of course the ones from the 70's.

The 2009 remasters are just too damn loud. I cringe whenever they come up on my iPod.

The tracks on the Single box are a bit less loud. But they're mastered the same way.

Clearly the Virgin CDs were better but do you think the Universal singles sound better than the CBS cd singles 1989 from Steel Wheels and Flashpoint?

So far, the best sounding versions of 1989-2006 Singles on CD are on the original CD singles. At least to my ears.

VERY COMPRESSED

It's still a better listen than the 2009 releases. The box is very nice and at least my ears don't hurt, listening to these songs.
