Well,Bill also wrote they played "Some Girls" and "Memory Motel" on the 78 Tour which is definately wrong!!I think that he is also wrong with "Can't you hear..." but don't know exactly!

Bobby Keys and Keith (as well as Bill) have both independently mentioned this song as having been tried once or twice early on in the '71 UK tour but that it fell apart. I think they're correct.

Its kinda strange that back in the much lauded Taylor era they werent able to play it onstage - yet they could in 2002/2003 even with the much ridiculed Mr Wood in the line up...

I don't think it is a problem of not being able to play it on stage, I think it is more the reaction of the audience. In Robert Greenfield's Rolling Stones article in 1971, Mick says they played Wild Horses at the first shows, but "the crowd didn't know what to do with it", so they dropped it. This could also be with CYHMK, I doubt it that the audience of that time was waiting for a 10 minute jazz interlude.

yes thats right if you look in bills book he also has wild horses
in the set at the first couple of shows, i think its true and just
a matter of the shows popping up on tape

I belive CYHMK was played, Bill is not the only one who mentioned that - I also heard of it before his book came out.

There are recordings of all the 1978 shows, and the songs claimed in the book were not played. There are other set list errors too, and Bill probably didn't even write the stuff, or if he did he made it up.

maybe you're right to some degree, although the quote I do remember reading was that when CYHMK was played onstage in 1971 it "fell apart", which would suggest an inability to play it properly...

Agree with Gazza, fell apart doesn't sound like the crowd were not into it. CYHMK was always a very popular song, I don't think the crowd wouldn't dig it.

yeah but they wouldnt have KNOWN the song, Hound Dog as the UK tour took place before "Sticky Fingers" came out....

I'm sure they'd have dug it!

maybe the song fell apart, maybe it just didn't fit right into the Stones setlist.
The Stones have a habit of trying songs early in the Tour, then ditching them if they don't think it makes their set run smoothly.
Back then, CYHMK would have been a massive music-style change....black & white compared to the rest of their set.
