Well, they got J. Geils and The Allman Brothers right. Personally I think Band of Gypsys is the best live rock album of all time. Ya Yas is pretty damn close. David - Live (at the Tower Philadelphia) is incredible.

The answer is of course, Allmans Live at Fillmore. I mean come on.

For many years I would have voted The Allmans but Ya Ya's is now my favorite.... Pretty much my all time versions of many Stones classics. Both albums were doctored in the studio so that's a toss up... If you put gun to my head I'd take Richards/Taylor over Allman/Betts as the greatest guitar pair of all time but it's a silly battle to get into. I've seen the latest run of The ABB at the Beacon and while Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes put on an excellent show they are scarcely the band from The Fillmore. Many weird covers, as if they were bored with their own legacy. No southern rock at all. Stones fans should be careful what they wish for, there's something to be said about presenting the best tunes. Of course Mick and company have 10 times the great tunes The ABB has in their catalog.

Yes, but only the Tony Visconti reordered/remastered version. The original was lacking a little.

Ya-Ya's now has 60% of the vote. More than all of the others combined. IORRians can always be counted on to rig an election. Not me, though. I voted for Live At Leeds.

I like Bob Dylan's 1975 Bootleg Series release. It was one of those sought after boots for a long time, and I love the official release. One of the best sounding live recordings ever. I also love most of our Stones live albums, but beyond those, this Dylan release is excellent. Also agree with the David Live re-issue mentioned above. Another gem is the re-issue of The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads. Absolute bliss for a fan like myself.

Yeah, I would certainly have that one in my top 5 of favorite live albums.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Well that's better! Someone want to tell me, why a live album is not always live? I want a live album to be completely live, not a bunch of edits every 3 seconds, but maybe its just mesmoking smiley

I'll bet they're scratching their heads at the Detroit radio station from which this poll originates. "What happened to Seger?" they're probably saying. "Isn't 'Live Bullet' supposed to be the greatest album ever made?"

Three of the albums made huge impacts on the careers of these artists and pop music at the time: KISS Alive! Frampton Comes Alive! and Cheap Trick - Budokan. They may not be our favorites but the albums did very well.

In Frampton's case, the live versions of his songs are the definitive versions. So much so, that the seldom heard studio versions just sound "wrong" when you hear them. I don't think that can be said about any other artist.

We don't have a tape, but overdubbed vocals are easily identified.

Although not as well known as Frampton's 'hits', the songs from Hendrix' Band of Gypsys are also definitive versions.

Cheap Trick at Budokan is a favorite at my ranch...so is Cheap Trick at Austin and Cheap Trick at Los Angeles. Ooh also Cheap Trick at Las Vegas was way too much fun...
