Hello everybody,

First of all I dont want anybody take this comment as negetive becouse I like the new album a lot. I think there are some great songs on it, mainly:

Angry
Mess it up
Depending on you
Dreamy Skies
Driving me too hard
Tell Me Straight
Sweet Sounds of Heaven (a little overproduced)

But my question is where the Chuck Berry influenced went ? why there is no a Chuck Berrian three chord song ?

Bye
Fernando

As far as I remember it they did that mostly in the first 10 years of their existence. Maybe they got tired of it.

Rollin Stone Blues is only three chords. E, A, B. But it’s not ChuckBerrian

It’s still there but it’s much more subtle. It’s 2023 not 1963, even if there wasn’t that influence you could forgive them for evolving and adapting. A band that stands still effectively goes backwards!

Berry influence is all thru Live by the Sword.

Absolutely, probably why this is my favorite track so far.

Because the lazy Berryish type songs ended up as B sides?

It could be that they had 23 songs and picked the ones for Hackney Diamonds to be a Unit of sorts. And then saved some of the more old school ones for the next album.
Thinking that Hackney would be talked about as Stones being more current and the next one would be back to the roots… well see!

Or - since Mick and not Keith - wrote all the recent material there is no CB-influenced stuff to be heard.
