What an interesting watch regarding SRV and the Stones. It left me wondering if they passed on signing him because he was so damn good and as a possible opening act would have left them looking rather average. Granted, blues music has had an up and down history, but SRV was in a class of his own. I think of how his cover of Jimi's "Little Wing" was such a good groove but became a cliche as a number of others did their cover of Jimi based on SRV's cover (I had a guitar teacher who covered this song this on one of his albums and it was rather cliche, nothing to separate it from the rest). Though I have a number of SRV's songs in my ongoing mix two stand out - Riviera Paradise and Lenny. Such good guitar playing and musicianship.
Love SRV, but hate him playing Hendrix. It falls way short, and there are people who only know SRV's version and think it's the best, and that he wrote Little Wing and Voodoo Child. No one outdoes Hendrix. You can be more versatile, like Bloomfield, but no one is better.
This vid is hard for me to believe . A guy reading from a book -really ? So then I thought this was a scam and bs when the fella reading said that Mick was watching the show from on stage at Danceteria and a fella jumping up and down and SRV not knowing who the fella was (Jagger ) ? Lost me there as if you would have had to crawl out from under a rock to not instantly know who Mick Jagger is and what he looks like . Even if he had a full beard !
