OT: Safari-Browser issue
Date: February 1, 2022 15:50

My latest version of the Safari Browser doesn't display any http- [www.youtube.com-link], it leaves the body blank. Only https- [www.youtube.com] works.

Anyone has similar issues?

Thanks.

I was going to ask about this too, but I thought I’d done something stupid and didn’t want anyone to know how bad I am with tech! The last time I updated my software, maybe 3 weeks ago, this is exactly what happened to the display here. It sucks.

Click Develop > Empty Caches

This is an issue of newer Safari-Browsers. Here's an example - [iorr.org] .

The embedded YT-Videos are not visible under Safari 15.3 (iOS) but they're still visible under Safari 14.1 (Mac). Emptying the cache doesn't solve the issue (it's Safari internal and due to the http/https mixture).

That's why I always try to post the appropriate YT-links additionally.

As far as I can see it the problem occurs on iorr.org only. When I post a YouTube link on any other site is displays the youtube file perfectly, be it http or https. Maybe BV has an answer.

I am no tech guy.

It's a Browser-related technical issue due to the http/https mixture. It doesn't occur e.g. with Microsoft Edge 97 of Windows 11 or with Google Chrome 97.

There's a call for some feedback by Jen Simmons, an Apple evangelist and developer advocate on the Web Developer Experience Team for Safari and WebKit:

Thanks Irix, but once again: a [www.youtube.com-link] leaves the body blank, #ffffff to put it hexadecimal. You can only see the blue link (left) in the preview; there's nothing to be seen once the message is posted. No poster frame, nothing. It's a Safari-Iorr.org related problem as far as I can see. The page source says https even if I post a youtube link as http. If I click the link in the page source I get linked to my user profile ?? Maybe some policy issues, or whatever reasons, I don't know. On any other site my safari browser works perfect i.e. finds the server in relation to YouTube.

It's more a Safari-only related problem since this error doesn't occur on IORR with the current versions of Firefox 97 (Windows), Microsoft Edge 98 (Win 11), Google Chrome 98 (Windows), Opera 83 (Windows). The error also doesn't occur with Safari 14.1 on Mac. But it occurs with the new Safari 15.3 e.g. on iPhone. There're possibilities for a Bug-report: [Bugs.Webkit.org] , [FeedbackAssistant.Apple.com] . The issue could be the correct rendering of 'Mixed Content' elements (http/https).

Maybe security related ?

Not necessarily and YouTube-Videos are considered as passive content (Scripts & StyleSheets are active).

IORR is shown completely encrypted in all Browsers (Mozilla Firefox, MS Edge, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Opera) with a valid TLS-Certificate by Cloudflare.

When you click/tap in Firefox 97 on the Lock-symbol (left beside https), there's another Lock-symbol which says "connection is secure" and then there's an arrow for more informations. There you can open a window which has 4 tabs and in the tab "Media" all loaded elements are displayed as "https" although the link in the post - [iorr.org] - says "http" for the specific YT-Video. You can also see in this Firefox-window that YouTube loads a lot of preview-pictures ("i.ytimg.com/vi/*.jpg", all https too). Maybe it's not a security issue, but a rendering issue of these elements by Safari.

I know other browsers function. I only use Safari though. And the only browser issue that I have to deal with refers to IORR.org.
