Bingo! That's the essential "Factor X" That distinguishes a musician who can move you and make you feel something from someone who just knows how to operate an instrument technically. The Stones are blessed to have and have had a group of musicians who - with the exception of Mick Taylor - were never technical virtuosos, but could do their thing with loads of SOUL: Mick, Keith, Ron, Charlie, Bill...and the late Ian Stewart and Brian Jones. That's why, IMO, self taught musicians often have something that those who took lessons miss. They learn how to play the way they FEEL, whereas those who took formal lessons usually play the way somebody TOLD them to. I've read that in the early days, Keith had figured out how to place his fingers in the right places but didn't even know the names of the chords he was fingering. When he wanted to show a new song to the band, Bill Wyman would look at his hands and tell the band it goes from G to C or whatever.
