Interesting read on the 1970s outlaw country music genre with a short interview with Steve Earle. As I read this, I was amazed at how many of the songs noted in the article I already had as part of my ongoing listening mix. If you haven't discovered him, explore the music of Doug Sahm. He was the founder of the Sir Douglas Quintet which had a big hit in the 1960s called "She's About A Mover" wherein the band pretended to be part of the English Invasion. He was also a member of the Texas Tornadoes and did a number of solo projects. One of the songs noted in the article, "Streets of Baltimore", was covered by Gram Parsons. Both versions _ Bare's and Parsons" - are great listens.
