I loved Steve's singing from early Spencer Davis Group on.
Tour was plagued by poor ticket sales.
Winwood, Capaldi and their bassist Rosko Gee from the '74 "When The Eagle Flies" era, but basically Winwood and Capaldi...Chris Wood having passed away and Dave Mason not on-board, although he had been in and out of the band even "back in the day".
I saw Midnight Oil there with Hunters & Collectors opening on the Blue Sky Mine tour. Phenomenal show & I really liked the venue. I saw 1 or 2 other shows there that weren't quite as memorable artist wise. Music biz stuff. I always liked the Forum, also. Then there was the INXS show at I think Irvine. Last show of the Kick tour. We called it the night of 10,000 spandex mini skirts afterwards. Memorable, haha.
I saw one of those fantastic shows at the Hollywood Bowl with my wife. And as time has marched on, I've probably seen Steve Winwood solo live more times than Clapton.
He's my wife's favorite, and he seems to come around here more often - mostly very small venues such as the Wiltern, Pantages, and even Casino's.
While I always love to see him also, I've seen some Clapton solo shows in the past that are at the top of my all time favorites list .
My 22nd birthday in 1985 at the Universal Ampitheater probably the best of the bunch - a truly memorable birthday. Clapton 1985
While not a solo show (though he did have a mini solo-set)The ARMS Benefit will always be at the top though and it was the first time I ever saw him.
It might have been even better had Winwood been there - he was replaced by Paul Rogers for the US shows.

I had a great ticket for the Hollywood Bowl show but I had a deadline to meet that resulted in a $250K contract extension. Sold it to a taper who decided at the last minute not to tape. WTF is that all about? My only disappointment of the BST show at Hyde Park in 2018 was Winwood didn't play with Clapton especially considering the Blind Faith history in Hyde Park.
Hoping they collaborate at the Ginger Baker Tribute. Tickets secured (will be with 3 tapers), flight booked and deciding on Airbnb accommodations this week.
I think Joe Cocker was the one who was supposed to be the replacement for Winwood at the U.S. ARMS concerts.
Rogers came aboard too, and sang with Jimmy Page, which then led to their partnership in The Firm.
Yeah that's probably right loog droog, and it was great to see Joe Cocker.
It was my first time seeing all three of them, and for me there was very high anticipation to see Page probably more than anything else.
Clapton was great as "Masters of Ceremony", Jimmy Page was a bit sloppy (to put it mildly), and it turns out Jeff Beck left the biggest impression on me - truly mind boggling.
As for what eventually became the Firm - at the time I thought they were ok, but never really liked the dominating fretless bass, and ultimately felt they left alot to be desired.
Saw them live twice I think, and felt the same.......it was all sort of anticlimactic.

Yes I saw it at the Universal Ampitheater in L.A. and it was fantastic!
Originally an outdoor venue at Universal City, they put a roof on it in 1982 with a capacity of apprx. 6,000. The name changed to Gibson Ampitheater in 2005,
and it was ultimately closed down to make room for a Harry Potter themed piece of crap for Universal Studios.
Saw many great shows there including Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Traffic, and many others.
A real shame they had to close it as it was such a cool venue, but the memories will live on forever....

I saw this tour in Minneapolis. I think it was the tour opener? It wasn't supposed to be, but something happened where the original first two dates were postponed or canceled.

Saw them open for The Dead, Buckeye Lake, Ohio.
Was a wet one. The Dead opened with a cover of The Beatles "Rain".

Listen, Winwood and Capaldi CAN do Traffic on their own, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame performance is proof of that. But I'd probably rather they call it Winwood or Capaldi at that point. Not sure the name Traffic actually has THAT much more pull, and the two of them don't really make Traffic. It was a BAND, but yeah, looking back on what I know about that tour it seemed like they were grasping for it.

Saw this show in Albuquerque afterwards back at the Hotel they did a little jam. Capaldi was sitting at the bar inebriated talking up some ladies didn’t bother him, Steve hung out and chatted with anybody that wanted too very cool my wife was able to tell him rainmaker was her fave.

The ARMS show was tops in star power. Clapton had been touring all along turned out a good set. Beck and Page had been of the road for a few. Becks set was stellar. The Winwood/Clapton show at Msg was one of greatest shows I have been too in recent memory
