Maybe the guitar was tuned to Open G and the capo broke?

Keith changes guitars right after JJF, so that would indicate different tuning for the next song which was Carol(?).

to me, Keith seems to be playing in standard tuning

for unknown reason, I think it's standard tuning with capo at 7th fret

Tis just same as 1969 US tour version, open G with capo at 4th fret. Taylor in standard tuning.

NO, he plays around the 7th/9th frets, not around the 4th/6th frets !

That's why I think it's not open G capoed 4th !

I think he's playing B by barring at the 7th instead of open G at the 4th.

Maybe because it's a 6 string open E tuned?

He positions his hand over the 9th fret while he hits the open B chord (open G capo at 4). He plays it like this ever since '69. Live at Hyde Park, with the short necked ES-330 it is even more obvious.

No. His hand is above the 8th fret, but he doesn't fret the strings when he hits the B chord. His hand doesn't need to be at the 4th position -the capo is there.

Well.. it actually has the same buzz saw sound as open g capo (with the slight bend of the D that I can never do) at the 4th so you're probably right.

Yes, that's where he plays when playing JJF using open G and capo at 4th fret. grinning smiley

He doesn't bar the 7th fret, his hand opens up for the open B chord when playing the chrous at approx 2 minutes 20, but most of all the music and notes heard in tandem with the footage tells us he's using open G with a capo at 4th fret.

The blurry footage is merely making it hard to see the capo. In rehearsal photos for Saville Theatre his les paul custom only has 5 strings and he's shown using a smaller/thinner capo than what he used at Hyde Park, for example.

The 3 song Saville Theatre footage is terrific, such as it is. Anyone know what Jagger is so revved up about during JJF? It's a furious and confrontational opening of the show by the lead singer.

I thought he was talking to a roadie or is it an audience member thats f-cking with something? Right at first Mick yells "Get the f-ck outta here' so I assumed it was a member of the crew...

He's talking to a fan sitting right up on stage and doesn't want to leave. That's why he says 'get off boy, get off'.

well, since you're already in pain anyway ... here's the whole picture:
they played two shows at the Saville Theatre on the 14th, and two at the Lyceum Theatre on december 21st.

there, that wasn't so bad, was it? i won't tell anyone you didn't know all along :E

Thank you. I'm actually proud that I had the guts to put my ignorance out in public (like anyone would give a shit.

Anyway, it's great to know that there is much more to learn when one gets more time to indulge in trivia.

I have watched this Saville JJF (from 4Reel DVD) on a big screen and I didn't see any capo on Keith guitar.

Open G, capo on 4th, played in the open G style he started with in 1969. When did he change the riff was it in 1978 or even 1975? You can hear he changed the riff by 1981. I think the first live version of the riff in open G was the best, it's very tight and focused. 1972 was the best version of the song of course.
