I love Zeppelin...they are a top 10 favourite band for me.

OK so we have one fan on this board + me. WOW!

I've seen them 18 times in the 70's, can't say I'm not a fan.

F*ckin' B*stard, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, so jealous.

SonicD

That's what the recordings are for. Have a drink sonic...

I can exclusively reveal that I was invited to join LZ at the same time at Ronnie but had to decline because I had a dental appointment.....

I dont know about joining Zeppelin, but when Ron was with the faces he was a very good player...He was good with the Stones from 75 - 78...Then it was all downhill.

Never saw Zep either, a bit before my time.
I've seen Robert Plant a couple of times...I know, not the same thing by a mile.

Enjoyed the shows though very much, particularly last years.

Favorite concert you've been to?

1972 Forum show, the one that half of How The West Was Won was recorded.

And he saw Mick and Keith on the way to Hyde Park AND was in America with Jeff Beck at the same time. Is there no end to his talents?

wait; I think he was also the real lover to Patty Boyd at the time.

that was a bit later. and the Hyde Park encounter did take place, but in june, not july -

Ronnie claims to have seen the Stones at Hyde Park (or seen them on the way to the Hyde Park show ... something like that)

... Ronnie tells it as if he spoke to Mick and Charlie just before their july 1969 performance,
but it was at the june 1969 Hyde Park concert that he encountered them.
they'd all come to see Blind Faith, and the two Stones no doubt wanted to check out the logistics.
so Ronnie's not quite full of shite - he's just gotten mixed up about what month it was,
which happens even in the best families

Is this seeing them at Blind Faith Hyde Park gig a conclusion you came to yourself or is it something they have said?

i researched it, and "Ronnie's people" confirmed it.
Mick's presence at the Blind Faith gig is a verified fact - that's why they played Under My Thumb.
Ronnie was in London at the time of that june concert, so going to the Blind Faith debut just came natural -
and so did running into Mick and Charlie there and wishing them well for their already-scheduled upcoming gig

it's too bad Ronnie's told the story so many times as if it had taken place at the july Hyde Park gig,
but it truly is a very easy misrecollection to make, all things considered

It makes sense of an other wise odd recollection... nice work! thumbs up

Also, given his not so stable member status in Jeff's band, I guess an offer or comment from Page or Peter Grant about joining The (New) Yardbirds perhaps in the weird in between period following the break up in mid 1968 of The Yardbirds isn't all that far fetched. Ronnie's farmer thing being more of a modern day memory addition to what they became rather than who they we're at the time, which was probably just Page and Grant and a lot of ideas.

The mis remembering and/or embellishments taking away credibility from what is otherwise probably true.

Or something like that. smiling smiley

Maybe Ron did not want to play "You shook me" again. I love the way they played this song with
the Jeff Beck Group way better than that Led Zeppelin version, but that is mainly because Rod's vocal
delivery is more of my taste than Plants.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

I don't believe he was offered Brians place in the Stones in 1969 as he started claiming in the late 80s
