Joan Baez

for years/decades, I was not her biggest musical fan. Her voice just did not appeal to me and neither did the slow tempos. I always respected her as women of character based on her Civil Rights activism and the way she handled
her relationship with Dylan, or at least what little I knew about it.

Musically speaking, that all changed when I saw her live Tue night in San Antonio, TX.

What a terrific performance! A true artist showing decades in the making craft. .I thought her voices sounded great. The guitar playing was just as beautiful as I have heard. She played four Dylan tunes, and had me from the opening # Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. The other 3 were it Ain't Me Babe, Forever Young and Hard Rain Gonna Fall. Other highlights were The Boxer, House of the Rising Sun, Deportees and others, including a couple of great gospel tunes. Just a great evening of music that I personally highly recommend. It worth repeating that for music fans, I just can recommend her enough.

My Italian dentist is a big fan and plays her music during dental treatments. He was so happy to have seen her last performance in Italy. Unlike many other older performers, Joan has not lost her singing voice. I also think she is more beautiful now than when she was younger.

Well Milan,

There was a point in my life where I sided with you. That changed after seeing her live performance. It was really was a terrific evening of live music. As i stated earlier, great sounding voice and beautiful guitar playing with a an excellent choice of songs.

It Ain't Midnight Rambler ,,.but that doesn't mean it wasn't great!

Joan Baez Induction Acceptance Speech - 2017 Rock Hall Inductions

She's got tons of rock and roll attitude and courage.
I appreciate her speech here, and have lived through the brief
period, tho I wasn't yet 12 and the Invasion hadn't quite hit yet,
....lived through the brief history Folk was king.
Electra Records had Judy Collins "Golden Apples In The Sun" as the top artist,
and Love and The Doors signings weren't yet on board...
...and glad I did....
i never had her records I'm freely admitting but her presence and statements
and courage; and yes the songs. i didn't dislike it, it's just not my particular first draw, so to speak....

here she is being perfectly Joan, and she's an enormous spirit imo.

A bit of a fox when she was young.
Love her attitude and her mission.
Not a fan of the music itself.

Never liked her.
"The Night they drove ..." is a nice song
but I always hated that constant vibrato in her voice.

I know Joan mainly because Judas Priest does an awesome cover of Diamonds and Rust! They also do an awesome cover of Fleetwood Mac's Green Manalishi.

I was not a fan of the constant vibrato myself. That was not as evident in the performance that I saw & maybe that I why I really enjoyed it.

I also used to think If I want to hear the The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down then who better that Levon. She did not play that song when I saw her.

As far as her attitude and her mission ...it really is something to admire & aspire. to.

She talked about playing in the deep south in the late 50's or early" 60's. There were only whites in the audience. She read her contract and it said "whites only" so she had that removed. She returned a year later and still the audience was whites only. The next year she returned to play at a black college & it was a mixed crowd.

NO you don't. Why do people post stuff like this.

I like some of her music but her inability to stop living in the 1960's annoys the hell out of me, She never shuts up about it. But again I do like some of her music. If she came to my area I would see her if she promised not to talk.

I love this song by her.

I do, actually. I think she's more attractive for her age as a 70 yr old than she was as a 21 yr old. Why would I say so otherwise?

Not really my type but I do think she's aged well.

Because people like to exaggerate. Yes she looks very good for her age but if you or anyone had a choice to be with 25 year old Joan Baez or 75 year old Joan Baez you like everyone else is picking 25 year old Joan Baez because she is much hotter.

What are you, 12 years old? I didn't say JB was "hotter" at 70 than at 25 - I said she was more beautiful. She now has a lifetime of activism, commitment and integrity behind her, which is reflected in her face, manner and voice.

As a straight woman, I have no desire to "be with" her at any age.

Not really a fan of her (unless she's with Dylan) but always respected her and she absolutely deserved that Rock Hall Of Fame induction.

Now moving the goalposts. Hotter and more beautiful are the same thing.

Easter lunch will be a bit of a surprise, as friends are bringing the main course. But my contribution, the salads and desserts, are not hot, though beautiful.

Beautiful weather today, but not too hot. And Rockman, you are welcome to join us, here on the other side of the world.

Happy Easter everyone!

Just based on her voice, she has one of the most pure, perfect voices I've ever heard. I saw her in the early 70's a couple of times and was amazed at her range ...and yes, she has aged very well!

I had the chance to saw live in Paris' Grand Rex circa 2006 and it was a very good concert (to my taste indeed).
She can bring emotions with her voice as few can.
