The Rolling Stones have been nominated for the Best Top Rock Tour award at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Kelly Clarkson hosts the 2019 Billboard Music Awards from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 1. The show will air live at 8PM ET on NBC.

I mean would:
Rod Stewart
Van Morrison
Bob Dylan
Fleetwood Mac
The Spice Girls

be classed as Rock?

That's the question, Jlowe. Sir Roderick is definitely Rock. Sir Reginald is between rock and pop. Sir Ivan is a mix of many genres and Mr Zimmerman is more into folk music. Hard to tell..

If it was based solely on boxscores they would just hold a ceremony handing out the pre-determined awards.
It isn't and they don't.

Hope they win, but something tells me Elton will win with his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road/Farewell tour which he's been touring across the US.

It must be for the results of 2018. They had a very good tour in UK.

give them an award for 2018 then if they had a very good 2018.

With U2 taking 55 shows to surpass the Stones 14 shows by only $1.36 million, their results are less than impressive. Elton doing more than three times the shows to gross less than half of what the Stones grossed, even less so.

Course, the grosses aren't the only criteria, as they factor in fan voting etc.
But based on numbers and quality, the Stones should win this one handily

"Rock" is as much an attitude as a genre .

The Stones still [just about] have an aura of Rock attitude about them.
Rod Stewart & Fleetwood Mac are perhaps good examples of acts who have lost that in the latter days of their careers.

Now surgery is over.... all went perfectly fine. Then back to some English humor.

They are nominated for the most "Hearthbreaking Tour" in 2019.
