Still someone I listen to with a number of his songs in my never ending music mix. He was a player's player, IMHO. Here's three of my faves by him. I'm sure y'all have your own fave SRV. Play some today in his memory.

Why use acronyms? Not everyone is SRV with Stevie Ray Vaughan...

Yes and I wonder what's his musical legacy among the general population...
Sure he played loud, sure he covered Hendrix faithfully, sure he put high-gauge strings on his guitars (---> he'd have to glue his nails back on his fingertips after a show... true story!).

But isn't he a bit forgotten?

Not forgotten

He was and still is amazing.

Saw a video of him at Austin City Limits just recently.

Can only imagine what he would be doing now if he was still alive.

Playing the same thing. Just like Clapton. And the Stones.

Saw him several times back in the day, and still have the small newspaper clipping of his death...
I remember listening to a college radio blues show before I knew who he was and they played Pride and Joy amidst some legendary blues tunes - I was bowled over by the lead guitar.
Found out who it was, and then found out he was also playing on Bowie's Lets Dance album. Such a great player, and a shame what happened considering he had finally fully cleaned himself up from drugs/drinking.
Don't play much of his music these days, but there's some standouts from those first few albums...the title track to Couldn't Stand the Weather is great, and I have that vinyl album picture disc.

One of my favorite Bowie tunes out of many is the Lets Dance version of this tune - the sizzling lead guitar by Stevie is fantastic...

Cat People (Putting Out Fire)

From the Soul to Soul album, 1985:Stevie Ray Vaughan - Change It

A smokin' live version from '87: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Scuttle Buttin' - Live Nashville 1987

And this beauty from Texas Flood, 1983: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lenny

I also saw him at one of those Wiltern shows in '87- he played three nights in a row - not sure which one I was at, but we could have been at the same show!
Also saw him at the Greek Theater in '86, Universal Ampitheatre in '84, and the Hollywood Palladium in '84 - all incredible shows.
Finally, a friend and I had a tickets to see him, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Santana at the Pacific Ampitheatre down in Orange County in 1988.
Forget the reason, but I couldn't make it so another friend went in my place - that would have been the last time I saw him.

I used to think he was the greatest American white blues guitarist ever. Until I heard Michael Bloomfield. Now it's a tie.

He certainly died too young and he would have matured into sth really interesting. I'm sure the Stones would have invited him onstage in 94 or 97.

He died on my 12th birthday...what a talent. Just imagine where he would be had he lived.
