At least in North America, today is the 70th Anniversary of the first Tape Recorder sold.
Here's some pics of the very earliest models available, based on German models.
A revolution would arise in the wake of this.

There's also Four Pages of very cool picks of early 8-Tracks and Cassettes also.
Some with various tech/blue-print plans as well as pictures (availableon this link).

it'll take you to the seminal models of the orignal inventions and first models available commercially in various formats.

Amazing how far technology has come since then - today you can fit a zillion songs on a gadget the size of a flea.
