For me, this Arif Mardin-produced gem never gets old - before all the big 80s, Daryl Hall and John Oates were a folky, soulful duo that Atlantic regarded with great pride. And that *gorgeous* album cover has a cool story behind it...wrote this today-

An impeccable record. Hall & Oates went on to make songs as great as those on AL but never a whole album as great.

Wonderful record. Blue eyed soul at its very best. Was lucky enough to catch them just after it came out in London summer 1976.

This is the album that turned me onto H&O. I still listen to it along with the much later album, Change of Season. Consider both primo H&O.

Saw them open for ELO once, was kind of dreading it, not really a fan going in...but came out a fan, man they were fantastic!

Great article. This is in my hometown, and also Daryl Hall's. He lies when he says he's from Philadelphia because we are an hour north and very rural. He has never once returned to our (his own) high school for any type of performance so isn't very popular in the area, kinda stuck up. I remember my great uncle used to tell stories about stopping in the "Luncheonette" in all hours of the day, sometimes for a sobering up coffee. Ironically I grew up, and still am best friends with one of Daryl's cousins.
