Authorities said best leave it unsolved.

That was Tap's first drummer John "Stumpy" Pepys. His replacement Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs choked on vomit, although it's unclear who's vomit it was. His replacement Peter "James" Bond spontaenously combusted on stage at the Blues/Jazz fest at the Isle of Lucy. His replacement Mick Shrimpton also exploded on stage!

Being a drummer for Spinal Tap is hazardous to your health! smiling smiley

Jeff Porcaro of Toto was at first thought to have died from a reaction to pesticides that he sprayed in his yard. Then the autopsy revealed it was a cocaine related heart attack. There went the story of the drummer who died from a bizarre gardening accident.

The real-life Tap drummers: Grateful Dead keyboard players (four dead) and Stooges bassists (three). People in these positions have been known to die. The Dead lost Pigpen (liver), Keith Godchaux (car crash), Brent Mydland (OD), and Vince Welnick (suicide). The Stooges lost Dave Alexander (ODed on alcohol), Zeke Zettner (dead on a Jones), and Ron Asheton (heart attack). Ig has a bunch of dead bassists from his solo bands too.

aww, poor Sandy Denny, especially!

I'm summer-reading Pamela Des Barres' Rock Bottom: Dark Moments In Music Babylon, which covers much of the same ground as this article. Gets a little tedious after awhile, but something to pick up on hot June eves.
