It's not snobbery to want to actually SEE the Stones when the price of a front section seat is $500 PLUS! That means, some of us do SIT at certain parts of the show. Now I do dance and jump around but maybe not for all of the show. And I TAKE PICTURES! Yup, I do get pissed when someone jumps in front of me and I ruin a shot but hey, it's a concert not church. Yes 71Tele, like that!!

Sounds reasonable to me...I never said a concert should be like church, just that people should behave considerately.

How the hell can you go to a Rolling Stones show and not dance????? That's crazy.

If your a dude over 40. Dancing is for the girls. Listening is for the fellas. Only idiots would embarrass themselves by trying to dance.

You must like the sausage fests. Women prefer a man with rhythm. To bad you're rapped up in your tough guy image, are you the only "sicilian" over 40 that can't dance? You're missing out by not be able to dance, get out of the corner and try it some day. You're that guy at the wedding who sits the entire night.

Your right, if you wanna dance, go to a wedding. Men dancing at Stones concerts is gay. Women prefer men with class not shaking their ass.

And again as an example of how some "fans" take what they think is their right to take, I would like to mention again the Bigger Bang show in Rome in 2007. Anne and I had great seats for this show, very close to the stage. And we were able to find our seats. But then a couple of thousands of "fans" decided to take over the field. Not only were they standing in front of everybody, but they were also standing on the chairs to get an even better view, totally ignoring everybody else. All that Anne could see were the backs and bottoms of those people.

I was there and also had good seats that turned into a crap storm because of the poor security that allowed all those people onto the field and then up front. I don't have Anne's physical issue but it ruined our show and we were very disappointed.

Back to snobbery, I have seen it even amongst the hard core fans on these internet boards. There are some who think they are somehow "in" with the band because they hang around and get to know the back-up performers or have some other connection they have nurtured. You hear them talking as if they actually "know" the band memebers and it is all just fantasy and second or third hand information. Sometimes the dynamics is quite amusing.

I admit I am a snob, if "snob" means that by paying over $100 for a ticket to see my favorite band I am expected to endure idiots who talk through the entire show, or worse, constantly fiddle with their cellphones, or feel the need to obstruct my view by "dancing".

I'm with you on this Tele...pisses me off big time when @#$%& dance and sing in front of me - like their concert experience is more valuable than mine

Yes, amazing how some people see their right to "express themselves" by "dancing" or talking trumps our right to actually enjoy the performance we paid to see. Many great concerts have been ruined (or nearly so) for me by this behavior.

Is this for real?? or some kind of ironic comments?? When i go to see the Stones and have paid £150 to see the band i want to sing and dance to every number! Enjoy the moment! If you want to sit and listen in silence and not participate stay at home and pop on a Bigger Bang DVD.

So, this means that whatever you want to do that qualifies to you as "enjoying the moment" is ok, no matter what form it takes, or how it affects the enjoyment of others? Just want to make sure I am getting this right, because I feel we have really identified the issue here.

Do whatever you want, just don't prevent me from seeing or hearing the show. Doesn't seem too much to ask, or does it?

OK, next tour i will sit in silence and tap my foot to the beat.......... what a great atmosphere if everyone does that - i'm sure the band will thrive on such energy.

Sure. It happens at Stones shows!

1. Before the encore loads of VIP's get escorted to their bus and limo services. Easy to see because they are all up front with great tickets, still they do never experience the final bow. They are probably in the hotel bar post party by the time of the final bow.

2. During the JOINT show in Las Vegas 1998, everybody was sitting down during thye entire show, also during Out Of Control. LA VIP's. It felt strange.

3. At the Roseland show in NYC many VIP's walked out after the first song or so, because that was all the time they wanteed to spend on the Stones. Then they could talk about the show next day at the office. Such a waste of great tickets!

These things happen all the time, every show, I just ignore it, but it's a fact that the Stones are like jewelry to some people, expensive but still a waste because it does not cost them anything, they have too much money, and they don't really care about the Stones at all.

Bjornulf

Fact is that a lot of those people have earned the right to have such a privilege (whether we like it or not) through corporate sponsorship / benefits, etc. You get a ticket for a show (because it is free), you go a long to check out whether the hype is for real - not every one of those people is going to enjoy it.

I don't mind people dancing and running around as long as they do it at the general admission area. That's what I do myself when I choose to get standing tix.
On the other hand, if I buy expensive tix for the seated section I'd like to sit down and not having to stand up because the guys in front of me are dancing
and headbanging all over the place. If you wanna dance and stuff like that, head to the standing area. Simple as that.

I totally agree with you. And for most shows in Europe we have that choice. But I am affraid that this won't work for our American friends. If I am not mistaken, all shows there are completely seated.

I'd imagine all shows on any future Stones Euro tour will be all-seated as well.

They've been bringing it in gradually on every tour since 2003. More and more markets each time. Even though there's no regulations insisting on it.

Less tickets to sell, but at significantly higher prices.

I sat across the aisle from Senator (and failed presidential aspirant) John Kerry at the BTB show in Landover, MD. He too was forced to stand but as he is quite tall he had people behind him yelling at him to sit down and calling him "Lurch" and so on. He kept responding with these looks that said, "Do you KNOW who I am?" He finally left, missing the b-stage sefment, which included a rousing rendition of "Crazy Mama." Apparently he had one of those at home.

I'm not a fan of the man, obviously, but I've read he IS a huge Stones fan and it's too bad he wasn't able to enjoy the show more.

Dancing at concerts may be disturbing to some but I can't see what it has to do with snobbery? Is a dancer a highbrowed snob by definition?

i saw the stones at MEN a hile back, they had the mini stage in the middle and was right opposite my balcony spot, went with me old man and some siblings, all sat in 2 camps both near each other tho.

great gig!

i did get some bad vibe looks for smokin some doobys at the beginning with me bro in the misheivious camp away from the old man, but as the gig went on, everyone started dancin an singin along, an alot of twitchers started reminiscing about dooby's. passed them on and the vibe was wicked. great gig

think it depends how its taken and who says stuff. everyones there for a good night right?

They should have a 'Royal Box' set aside for people who are disabled though I've got to say...as they do in English foootball matches - somewhere where they can see from their seats..............
