... The working title I heard about was Butt Naked, not "but naked".
What does "but naked" even mean?

Must be the the design "comps" showing the various ideas and artwork for what would ultimately become the Stripped CD. Way over priced.

Makes sense to me. As in "Here we are, but we're naked". The Rolling Stones, but naked. The naked part of course meaning stripped down electric reinforcement. Where as "butt naked" obviously implies no clothes.

I would surmise that whoever wrote "but" naked doesn't know how to spell "butt"!

We in Holland say "Piemel Naakt" which means totally naked

well if you 'heard it' and didn't see it written down...wouldn't it have sounded the same to you, and wouldn't that have been the double entendre point!

It's one of those mystifying colloquialisms that frolic around in everyday English

I can just imagine the artwork that would have accompanied the "Butt Naked" versions.

Reminds me a bit of Wyman discussing why he titled his new record Back To Basics instead of Back to Bassics.
