Stones Hypothetical Concept Album

As we know the Stones never recorded a concept album, although EOMS has a vibe of a band on stage in a bar, jamming out. Concept albums aren't always about a story, but sort of a feel. Still, I thought it would be cool to create a sort of Stones concept album or playlist. The story is the oldest one, which is love, but also the ups and downs and various emotions we all experience in those very serious relationships that we wish would work out but just don't.

So here is my list, with explanation of the running story of love, loss and acceptance.

Tell me what ya think.

Loving Cup ( Story opens with the sincere expression of want)

Let’s Spend the Night Together (Continues with the excitement of the early stage of the relationship)

Bitch (The intensity rises in his passion for her)

Beast of Burden (Signs of trouble as she begins to distance herself and he reemphasizes his dedication)

One Hit to the Body (Frustration over how she makes him feel)

She’s so Cold (Relationship is now totally one sided)

Miss You (After the split he deals with not having her)

I Got the Blues (Begins to sink in to deeper sadness)

Paint it Black (Reaches the depths of depression)

Wild Horses (Reflects on how much he sincerely loved her no matter how bad she treated him)

Let it Loose (Begins to move on although still painful)

Time Waits for No One (Reflects on life and love as a whole as he realizes he must not waste his years away)

You Can’t Always Get What You Want (Acceptance that he'll never get her back, along with other things in life he can't change)

I love the justifying you do for the inclusion of each track, seems like it could work...I may just have to make a playlist in this order and give it a few listens!

Geezus you got me cryin' in my beer.

Trouble, frustration, control, loneliness, sadness depression, regret and pain all for a little excitement and passion? Yeah ok sign me up but you better throw Some Girls in at the end to make the journey seem a bit more worthwhile. smoking smiley

peace

lol Thanks for the input guys.

I also did this for Zeppelin and I tell ya, when you play the songs in that order and imagine it's a real concept album, every song takes on a new life within the context.

Not sure who on here knows the Zep tracks well enough, but here was my list for them about a month ago that I posted on their forum.

Bron-Yr-Aur (Musical Intro)

Over the Hills and Far Away (Story opens with him meeting someone he’s interested in romantically)

What Is and What Should Never Be (Falls in love with her and wants them to stay together)

The Rain Song (Expresses continued love with a hint of reality at the end that not all is perfect)

Since I’ve Been Loving You (Expresses serious relationship trouble)

Hey, Hey What Can I Do (Expresses details of serious trouble in relationship)

Bring it on Home (Trying to make it work)

The Lemon Song (Continues with struggle as to why he's still with her)

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Threatens to leave if she doesn't change)

Dazed and Confused (Passionately describes the pain over loving and losing her)

Your Time is Gonna Come (Explains to her what goes around comes around)

Tea for One (Depression sinks in)

Going to California (Decides to attempt to move on)

Heartbreaker (10 years later he runs into her again and warns others)

Ten years gone (Realizes that even 10 years later, he will always love her)

Ramble On (Story closes with him leaving his latest relationship and stating he once had a real love but now he’s been rambling for 10 years since he lost her, and hopes to find a real love again)

I think it would also be possible to make a concept album with some kind of travel sequence.

I got a brand new car

Start me up

Route 66

Before they make me run

You can't catch me

Driving too fast

No spare parts

2000 light years from home

No Expectations

Silver Train

Memory Motel

Flight 505

(You can make your own story about this concept, can't you?)

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

all Stones albums (at least) since Steel Wheels are concept albums – the concept is simply: to earn as much money as possible by creating a reason (or rather a pretext) to go on tour

I always saw - and heard! - Their Satanic Majesties Request as a concept album. Well, it sure was the last time I heard it!! smoking smiley

yeah, I almost slid that in there just before Miss You, since it's a clear one about trying to stop her from leaving. I only left it off because it would have been the only cover.

My idea of a great Stones album with a theme or concept would be 12 NEW songs. The theme could be anything, such as lost love, drugs, sex, or frustration. Or the theme could be newness.

The songs must be NEW and not covers of other musicians' work. Or the songs could be unrelated to one another in theme. I want a new album, not another compilation album. I have too many of these now.
