George Will Thinks Older Stones Fans Are Immature

In the 1950s, Cross says, with Jack Kerouac and Hugh Hefner “the escape from male responsibility became a kind of subculture.” Today, oldies radio and concerts by septuagenarian rockers nurture the cult of youth nostalgia among people who, wearing jeans, T-shirts and sneakers all the way, have slouched from adolescence to Social Security without ever reaching maturity. This is a quote from George Will, dated May 15, 2015.

George F. Will is a syndicated newspaper columnist. He is very conservative, definitely a Republican, and critical of just about anything Obama has advocated or accomplished, including universal health care . His most recent column, Nanny State Has Extended Way Too Far, makes some valid points but the last paragraph was way off base.

It would appear that George Will thinks older people, such as myself, should behave in certain ways and that seeing a great rock group like the Rolling Stones is totally unacceptable. How would he want me to behave_ sit at home in a rocking chair and read the Bible, while voting for all Republican candidates? Today I rode my bicycle for almost 25 miles. Is that immature, since many children also ride bicycles. That article really pissed me off.

He's still grumpy because his parents wouldn't allow him to attend the show.

Everything in moderation Mr Will...there is no black and white in a grey world...

Small children have a limited worldview that doesn't allow them to be able to picture any other person's perspective but their own. This is before they learn to sympathize/empathize. It would appear as though Mr. Will still has this worldview.

I'm pretty sure just about anything most people consider fun, George considers immature.

Anybody remember the classic SNL sketch "George F. Will's Sports Machine"? Dana Carvey perfectly portrays what a downer this guy is. Here's a link to it, couldn't get it to embed.

I´m 46. Next weekend I´m gonna drive 2000 km to Paris to see AC/DC together
with my 15 y.o. son, sleeping in the car, maybe drinking beer, farting and
only washing occasionally.

Immature? Hell, yeah!!!!

The quote is from an article in the WAPo yesterday, called Punishing parents who deviate from the government-enforced norm.

It's really a local story that Will uses to illustrate how government intrudes on parenting decisions and how coddled kids have become. The last line is just his typical bombast. He's a bigwig in the DC journalism scene of inflated egos and polarized opinions. I doubt he even believes half of what he writes, it's the same game that all his colleagues play here. He does write very well about baseball, or so I'm told.

Not immature as long as he wore his helmet.

Maturity is over rated.
Indeed.

And I have heard that if one grows up too much one will die.
Who wants that? Being living-impaired would suck.

Agreed, maturity is WAY over-rated. Society too stressed out and serious. Have fun and enjoy while it lasts!

George Will is a bowtie-wearing dick, and if he removed that stick from his ass he might have some fun.

George Will was (yeah, I know he is) an American politcal columnist. He used to be interesting, but some years ago let ideology replace thinking in his musings. These days, he's a major horse's patoot. I read through this tread and thought of this song. It is about Mister Will and so many others. Bob got it right way back then. It still holds.

BTW, if you have never seen the movie "I'm Not There", find it and give yourself a treat. I have watched it a number of times. It works on so many levels. And Brian Jones is mentioned in it. The soundtrack to the movie is superb. If you can find it, go for it.

And, remember, compadres, if it's too loud you're getting too old. And when asked how old you are, smile, and say, "Old enough to know better, too young to care."

Peace.

And when asked how old you are, smile, and say, "Bout treefiddy" it is always a pretty good answer

"What" is is also pretty good answer too.

I like the Stones more than George Will. I like George Will a lot more than Obama (read Deconstructing Obama by Jack Cashill).

I was going to say that he voluntarily wears a bowtie, which is nothing more than a 'look at me' ploy, I'm an east coast elitist. One can imagine he must have been a gas(bag) when he was a kid.

He's actually a Midwest elitist.

- but I've never heard of George Will, and I'm pretty sure that I don't want to.

Still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.

Never heard of the dork todger. Besides, he's just saying stupid shit to attempt to justify his bullshit - which is writing about something completely irrelevant: what people do because of... what, exactly?

Exactly - nothing.

It's a dead "art", that kind of complaint prose.

Living out a dream of what they was
Don't you think it's sometimes wise not to grow up?
