Interesting stats for sure.
A shocking but somehow not totally surprising statistic that over 50% of rap and hip-hop artists die of homicide! That's off the chart considering the average for dying by homicide for all other music genre's is about 5% (still amazingly high) and less than 1% for the general population.

Some wonderful musical clichés confirmed:
blues musicians die of a broken heart; hip hoppers shoot each other; punks are simply 'walking-disasters-waiting-to-happen'; and pop dolls & world music folkies are just too lame and boring to die in a spectacular way...

don't forget the fact that blues musicians are usually older than hip hoppers (since blues was invented much earlier – every heard of a hip hopper aged 70+ ???)
The whole statistics is total bullshit – since it doesn't seem to make any kind of correlation to age, gender and generation:
- traditional blues men were rather poor, having no or little access to good medical treatment
- pop musicians are usually younger than the average population
- today people are getting older and are diagnosed with cancer, while people in the 50s less people did live long enough to develop cancer
etc etc etc

West is a rapper who spend more time in SoHo and at gala receptions than in Chicago's South Side streets.

Plus, you can interpret the statistics to imply that hip hop artists tend to die less often for self-inflicted reasons, thereby also implying that they're healthier, or . . . It's quite fascinating, actually. (Hip hop artists apparently also don't die of old age, meaning that the other 50% will live forever?)
