12 x 5 (plus Stu)

We all know the story about Stu not fitting in ALO's plan of marketing the band as a bunch
of "skinny English cats". And how Stu somehow took his role without being troubled by
too much of an ego.

But, to name an album with 12 songs by six musicians 12 x 5, that must have been quite
a blow. Stu is gloriously all over the recordings, and the album would not have been this
rocking and rolling if it wasn't for his contributions.

So I take the liberty to call this album "72" from now on. To honor the great man and
his boogie woogie.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

If you're calling it 72 in honour of Stu, maybe you could subtitle it, "Exile From Main Band".

Yeah it always kind of pissed me off the way Stu was sliced out of the band image and PR even though his musical contributions were significant. I mean he wasn't that bad looking and I'm sure he would have developed his share of girl fans given the opportunity. Maybe it was more about his attitude and personality.

Anyway it would be a pattern that the Stones follow to this day, not really making obviously important musicians in their music and shows "Rolling Stones" but "sidemen". I mean what's "side" about bass and piano that help make the foundation for every song? After 20+ years these guys should get more credit and limelight, imo.

Anyway I think Stu found his niche in the end and had a pretty damn good gig with them....being able to play only when he wanted, that's a pretty rare and obviously fun position to be in. I can't think of another band who has a similar player in that role. peace

Stu decided to stay as a sideman, and no doubt he understood what the consequences could be.

Wouldn't it be easier to call it 12x6 instead of 72?

Well if we were to include Ronnie and MT in as well, we could go with 8x9 and still get the same result.

If you want to throw Chuck into the mix, 9x8 works too.

With Darryl though, we'd have to get a bit more creative, perhaps 10x7.2?
