BBC Radio Broadcast Archives- Charlie Watts

As far as I know Charlie is the only member of the band to be on Desert Island Discs. Now possible to access his broadcast from February 2001 0n the BBC website.
For others understanding, the programme is a free flowing one to one interview format with the guests choosing his/her favourite recordings and reflecting on their life past and present. First broadcast in January 1942 this weekly programme has provided fascinating insights into the lifes of many interesting people.

<<I can't get any work in Australia>>

At least you can get Kellogg's Rice Bubbles in Australia....

....while here in the U.S. we get Kellogg's Rice Krispies instead.

I'm curious whether the Rice Bubbles go "snap, crackle, pop!" like the Rice Krispies or whether they just pop like balloons because they're "bubbles" and not "krispies". Also, I wonder what they call it in the UK, where you can access BBC links and such.

Not according to the Official Site [www.bbc.co.uk]

They, and Bill, have done "My Top Twelve" which although similar is not the same thing.

Looking through the official site to see who chose Stones' songs, and which ones is fun.

I think you are right Captain.

Mick would have been on "My Top Twelve" early 70s' from (a bad) memory lol. I remember my Aunt telling me he was going to be on and dispporoved as in her opinion he would choose classicla music lol. I have never heard the sho and don't know what he chose.

I did have Keiths' "My Top Twelve" on cassette which I recorded at the time - not sure when it was but again from memory around mid 80s but I really don't know. I may have the cassette still somewhre hoarded lol. I remember him choseing Jimmy Ruffins' "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" which he sort of messed around with on his 2nd solo album.

It broadcast in 1986 and the show, My Top Ten was presented by Andy Peebles.

I don't recall all of the songs that Keith selected, but I'm pretty sure he selected Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding, Key To the Highway and something by Dire Straits.

I'm another DID saddo, too eye rolling smiley Charlie is indeed the only Stone who's ever been on there, but I still harbour dreams of hearing the other three do it one of these fine days. It would be an instant classic.

I bet Ronnie would do it and he's already shown how good he is on radio ! I'm quite surprised Mick has not done it - it's one of things that the "great and the Good" do - everyone from Royalty to Nobel prize winners. you've really made it if you are on DID

You usually include pieces of music that have meant something to you in your life - classical musicians nearly always include a bit of pop or rock as well as classical - typical Charlie not to want even one stones song for the memory on his desert island !
